Dr. Mahelsky is an excellent psychiatrist in all respect. As a patient with a temporary, but potentially consequential condition, I was treated by him for about 2 years (2021-2022).

He was outstanding from my first impression. Dr. Mahelsky runs his own practice and I have never needed to meet with office staff or others. He is responsive, promptly returned my first call, spent ample time discussing matters and a plan for treatment, and delivered excellent care throughout the process.

I was lucky to find him and that he accepted my insurance. Previously, I spoke with about a dozen NYC psychiatrists with little success with regard to criteria: quality of medical education (he graduated top of his class at SUNY, NYU), experience (20+ yrs.successful private practice) and most importantly, a doctor who genuinely cares about you, listens, and works with you and other professionals to achieve an excellent outcome.

Dr Mahelsky has been a fantastic psychiatrist over the 6 or so years. Very organized, communicative and thoughtful in his process. I appreciate how he really listens to me, asks the right questions and considers all factors in medication management. It is also nice and rare to communicate directly with a physician by email for appointments, which I appreciate.
