Model Airplane Field reviews
7It's a small, round patch of ground where you have to cross a busy and dangerous roadway to get to. Decades ago I can picture people standing in the center of the ring and flying their tethered planes or playing with their tethered cars. Today, I guess it makes more sense to play with a remote controlled car around the track as I'm pretty sure no one owns tethered toys anymore. Otherwise, there is no reason to risk crossing the road to get to.
This is a little hidden place on the road threw forest park drive. This has been here since my forever and I know many old timers too. Even used as emergency. Yet, I have not seen a real helicopter in it since I was 9.used for model planes and for car raceing for many years. I do not know the rule on drones.
Newly rennovated park, enclosed, 2 entrances one on the east and west wing. Great view of Forrest park, and the park house, quiet, perfect for the family, people actually bring remote control toy cars and planes here, so if you're lucky you might get to see some action here! Great place to relax with the family!
I give it five stars solely on the basis of it being a “legal” place to fly. Need more places like this throughout the boroughs. Otherwise the small space and tall tree don’t make for the best environment to fly drones. However once you clear the trees you do get great views of the surrounding area such as the golf course, Jackie Robinson Parkway, cemetery where Jackie Robinson is buried, Franklin K. Lane High School, and Manhattan in the horizon.
Too small for me. Went to fly my Mavic Air and I couldn’t use the majority of the quick shots features because of the nearby trees. I was able to use the rocket feature but that was it.
Very small place to fly drones, maybe only one person can fly at a time I was lucky to come at 10am that no one was around and had it all to myself but I could see issues if more ppl come, btw with all the trees around careful using the "POI" intrest on the mavic pro, all the trees also make it very hard to get a strong GPS signal
One of two places in Queens that allow Quads/Drones. The other is Flushing Meadows but the sign outside the circle says it's only for control line or tethered flying.
Forest Park has this circle surrounded by a ring of tall trees which make it difficult for line-of-sight flying.
This area is part of a tiny strip that lies outside the 5 mile radius of both JFK and LaGuardia airport.
