Museum of the City of New York reviews
16Relatively small museum, but it was a great experience, so we spent there much more time than originally planned. The museum is very informative and interactive and learn a lot about NYC. The staff was also extremely friendly.
Small museum that features New York history, music and arts. We explored it in just 1 hour. The staff are nice and friendly too.
It's an ok local museum. As a museum dedicated to the New York City the potential is vast but somehow the curators have taken a very narrow view of what collection should be on exhibit. While this should be my #1 recommending for a visitor to NYC who wants to learn about city it sadly fails on that aspect.
Yesssssss! I freaking loved this museum. I got in free after paying for a ticket at the museum across the street. So worth it. It’s 3 stories, and had great exhibits. The Dollhouse exhibit was really neat. But, I particularly loved the one called New York, New Music. Well done! It had all kinds of pictures and videos of performances and artists from 1980-1986. It was just special. I also learned of a new band I hadn’t heard of which was awesome. (For those who are curious it was The Fort Apache Band) Love adding new music to my repertoire. I would love to visit again to show my boyfriend and see what else I discover.
Very nice museum, im from chicago and was visiting a relative in new york. We passed by this museum on our way to "el museo del barrio" which is next door. Before we left the museum, one of the staff suggested visiting "Museum of the city of new york". I dragged my relative to see it with me. I really love the exhibition. Also that its not overwhelming. I love learning about New yoek history. They really did a good job on teaching and display how new york was back in the day. I definitely will recommend my fellow
People to visit this great museum.
Beautiful museum. The exhibits are engaging for both adults and kids and show different facets of New York. We especially loved the dollhouse exhibit. The 30 min video was very informative and interesting. The museum is designed in a modern and inviting way. A fun trip and unique experience. (Pay what you wish if you ask at ticket counter:) great gift shop too.
Loved their "New York, New Music 1980-1986"" exhibit. Accessible ramp on 104th st.near 5th avenue. You need to visit them.
Beautiful museum! Gorgeous architecture, lots to see, and a great place for the weekend or mid-day trips
It was amazing and also the entry fee is pay what you wish, it was a very visual and interactive way to learn about the history of New York, also the whole staff was helpful and friendly.
The New York, New Music 1980-86 exhibition was cool too and it features Madonna so extra points for that
When you love a place. I was surprised to enjoy the puppet exhibit as much as I did. Although, this is a common theme for the rotating exhibits. You can't go wrong!
Interesting museum. Bottom floor is the most interesting with lots of history, the other exhibit were less interesting to me personally. The museum is situated in what looks to be like a rough section of town-trash on the streets and bars on windows.
Very nice museum! You can buy tickets at Groupon - it will be cheaper.
Not crowded, beautiful shop, interesting expositions
It's ok, I guess.
Lot's of bits and pieces from the culture of NY but not more than that, it should be better described as pop-up cultural history of NY, not more, sorry
We loved this museum. It had several unique exhibits, and was just the right size. Easy to spend 2 hours and see the whole thing. And there’s a great little cafe also.
You will probably not make it in time to see everything on a day, restaurant within the facilities is very nice and definitely a plus.
