Muttontown Preserve reviews
12Great trail for a casual walk - no significant ups and downs, 2 small muddy patches easily bypassed, superb signage all along the trail and pretty much at every fork in the road. There are lots of smaller trails snaking through - strongly recommend something like AllTrails, preferably with offline map downloads as cellular signal is spotty. We met a few other folks along the way - not as crowded as many others like Avalon or Cold Spring.
Beautiful park, nice wildlife, trails marked very well, love this place, will come back again.
Love the grounds! Did a drive through after a long day of work and found a cute leave one take one spot. So uplifting and unexpected. Will be back to hike in a couple weeks.
The park itself is not big, and the buildings are a bit distinctive. You can see wildflowers in spring.
公园本身不大,建筑有点特色,春季可以来看野花。
I was really impressed with the Muttontown Preserve! Its a lovely area of hardwood forest that you can take a walk.
There are some old ruins in the preserve which are interesting to look at.
Also there is a horse trail in the Preserve which people can use!
There is some usefull imformation about the preserve at the main building near one of the carparks.
Be aware of ticks and poison ivy!
I took my toddler on a short hike to scope out the area. With free admission and decently kept trails, I can safely say I'll probably be coming back for more. The directions as of October 2021 have you sent to the Chelsea Manor, however there is parking right by the nature center. Follow the signs.
Its ok, a little confusing if your not from around the area, had to ask for directions. Went to the Mansion &Garden first but by accident.then was directed to the right place. There's sufficient parking, and a little cabin, you'll find bathrooms in there and an info area. The trails start there.the trails, have trails so you might get confused. You'll know your on the trail if you see posts (like 6a, 2b stuff like that). Very muddy paths, lil swampy area, a hilly, grassy area, large area. Eventually if you venture off the path you'll end up on the horse ranch. Saw some beavers too. Which was cool. Adventure took about an hour, overall its ok.
The preserve is a remarkably large forested area of 550 acres, including a half dozen or so nature trails of various lengths, in suburban Nassau County. The paths range from 1 mile to a half mile in length and interconnect. The trails serve ably as (ungroomed) cross-country ski trails when snow fall allows.
Pretty, quiet place for an easy stroll. Paths are not marked well though. Can get confusing, but it's not that big a place.
Wonderful walking trails. And be sure to read about its history as the Christie estate and the palace of King Zov (last king of Albania)
If you like level hikes with wide paths, this one is for you. Unfortunately you are almost always in the woods, not much in terms of views or any other features (lake, river). But it's a relaxing hike with almost no people and some ruins.
The Manson is closed but the grounds are open. Beautiful spot to walk and relax. No bathroom.
