Nassau County Museum of Art reviews
17My personal museum experience was very uncomfortable. Tried to enjoy my time here but was followed and stared at by a staff member the whole entire time. I couldn't enjoy myself because everywhere I looked the lady was standing there staring at my group. Will not be returning.
Small, basic, and bland collection. Rude staff particularly security. Although the parking was great (that's what the one star is for)!
I spent 2 days at a private event here. The staff were friendly and helpful. The galleries are lovely, easy to navigate. There is an elevator to the second floor. The grounds are lovely, walkable, and paved. Ample parking. Over the years, I have visited the museum itself for special exhibitions, which were worthwhile.
Beautiful outdoor museum! Lots of beautiful walking areas, gardens, sculptures, you name it! They have a large parking lot for busy days. Really beautiful place to walk around & take in the beauty! We saw lots of people having a picnic, walking around, enjoying the outdoors.
Quaint little museum. Fantastic value of your local library has free family tickets!
The art seemed to be mostly abstract and modern. The kind you feel your kids should be able to produce. Several gallery rooms downstairs, then several more upstairs. Spacious mansion gives ample space, light, and ceiling height to make it enjoyable.
The outdoor sculpture garden was even better. The art was just as hallucinogenic post modern, but the grounds are fantastic to walk around. Grab a map before leaving the museum building (left of the door) and check off the exhibits as you walk around.
I was at this venue for the Twilight Pumpkin on 10/28/2007 & 10/26/2008. The hundreds of jack o'lanterns I remember were perfectly carved. I was here 2 full weeks ago with a group from a local studio for all abilities in my town. I enjoyed viewing the gift shop and most of the artworks in the museum. They inspired me to expand my art. The tour guide was very nice and loved my knowledge of art. I enjoyed looking at the outdoor sculptures despite one in the group invading my space, which was why I didn't fully enjoy the experience. It's beyond the museum's control, but had I been in a group where all participants were behaving themselves, I would have enjoyed it more. I may register for some summer classes and look at opportunities to improve my art at this place.
I was disappointed in the breadth of the exhibit. The grounds are beautiful and the sculptures are nice. The artwork inside is of a select few artists and styles.
The museum is lovely but the star here is the grounds. This is a hidden gem of a sculpture garden around a one mile loop. It’s one of my favorite places in all seasons. You can park and walk. It doesn’t matter if the museum is open.
Wonderful Exhibits & Beautiful Grounds to walk about.just wish they would fix the Gorgeous Fencing Off to the left if the msin building.it is a fantadtic ficsl poi t & adds so much to the gardens. Thank You for having such a Fantastic Resource fir Art & Photography Exhibitions!
Exhibit was okay to me to me I give it 3 because the person that gave the tour is very informative but when we got to the second floor I was disappointed because she overlooked African American photographs on the wall and did not mention it in the tour knowing that it was African-American month,
Rude staff. It was 4: 10pm when they close at 4: 45. I’m 4 months pregnant (I made it known) and the women at the door wouldn’t even let me just use the bathroom to pee, saying the Museum is closed. So I kindly thanked them for nothing and had to drag my husband, in-laws and nephews out of the park so that I could go somewhere else to relieve myself.
I like the area around the museum, good place for walking with kids, it takes about an hour. We were surprised at the amount of big figures of flowers, bees, elephants and other animals, insects and things.
Their outdoor sculpture garden was nice although probably better enjoyed in summer. The permanent collection was underwhelming but the art that was loaned to the museum was wonderfully curated.
Rare and Notable artist from the past and present expert guided tours of artists works walking gardens and decorated grounds with artists status and artworks if modern and traditional styles.
This is a great small museum that currently has an excellent photography exhibit. We took a docent-led tour with Susan and it was very informative and interesting.
There are always good art exhibits at this museum. The work of many well-known artists are displayed. The docent tours at 2pm are very interesting and enlightening and are included with admission. There is a discount admission price for seniors.
What a treat! I never knew the winter lights were there until this year. I put my 5 year old in the backseat. We drove through and he had a blast naming the familiar shapes. He really liked the robot that moved. This was my first time at this museum I will visit again in the day to see some exhibits!
