Neue Galerie New York reviews
18 This is a very small collection at the moment but worth a stop if you want to see Gustav Klimt Portrait of Adele Bloc-Bauer.
If you can wait until February 15 when they open the 3rd floor for the Klimt landscapes.
This is a replica as photos are not allowed.
A beautiful collection! I love the works of Klimt and Schiele, and I was ecstatic to see some of these in person. Their special exhibition of Max Beckmann's work was thorough and educational.
Went there on the free friday offer. Very crowded but good crowd management from the staff. Be prepared to queue outside for a while if you go for the free entry (45min). And you're not allowed to take pictures inside.
I’m giving 3 stars for the great Beckmann exhibit and the Klimt room. But didn’t enjoy the place at all. Very unwelcoming (with the exception of a couple of workers there). You feel as if you pay to feel unwelcome and they’re doing you a favor by letting you in. But then I’m not UES old money, and I don’t like such stiff atmospheres, so…
Beautiful rooms with great pictures by European artists! The Viennese café is certainly great for non-Europeans, but nothing new for us.
I don’t know if all the people who gave this museum 5 stars really enjoyed it or are just trying to seem sophisticated. For the admission price, I found the experience quite disappointing. The collection on display is very niche and the entire museum only contains a few different rooms. Even though the mansion appears large from the outside, a very large portion of the building is taken up by the entryway, ticket counter, restaurant, and a lecture hall. Not much space is left for art. Only one room is particularly impressive, the gallery with Klimt’s Bloch-Bauer portrait plus other very captivating portraits. However, the famous Bloch-Bauer is behind such a thick and distracting piece of bulletproof glass, that it is almost impossible to appreciate. Online images do it *more* justice than seeing it in person behind the bulletproof glass barrier at the Neue. The other galleries mostly just had works which seemed more like sketches than museum worthy paintings.
What an amazing place with a special collection of Klimt. The bookstore is worthy visiting. If you have time, line up for the Sabarsky cafe for authentic Austrian food. Don’t miss the dessert; just fantastic.
A small and precious art gallery of modern German masters. The special exhibition of Max Beckmann was very moving.
A dream come true has been to see Klimt's painting of Aunt Adele "The Golden Lady". Even more beautiful than I imagined.
Enjoyed visiting Neue Galerie. I could've spent hours looking at Klimpt's portrait of Adele. There were portraits of Gertrud Loew as well which was mesmerizing. It was a quiet and small gallery I could enjoy without rushing (not like in front of Van Gogh's Starry Night at the MoMA). I wish they allowed photography since I loved the portrait of Adele, but I guess not allowing photography made this gallery so peaceful. I would revisit just to see a portrait of Adele. The price could be lower considering how small the gallery is compared to MoMA and Met, but it was worth it.
Lovely space, not too large. The Beckman exhibit was well attended, but did not feel crowded. The Klimts don't fail to satisfy.
Housed in a lovely mansion near the Met museum, the Neye Galerie is a gem, focused on Austrian and German art of 1890 to 1940. The Cafe Sabarsky is amazing, particularly when it comes to dessert.
I've been multiple times and the security guards are extremely rude with no reason, they really ruin the experience. You'll be yelled at when trying to take a photo (even though there's no signage or previous warning).
Also the security guard controlling the entrance is always power tripping
Charming little museum, very chic and above all with the magnificent portrait of Adèle Bloch Bauer, the woman with the necklace by Gustav Klimt
Great house at Upper east side. Guatav Klimt originals. One beautiful Egon Scheile. Great shop itens. Wonderful cafe. I had the goulash. Totally recommended.
Always a great place for a civilized, cultural experience. Have a drink or a Viennese coffee at the restaurant, and then tour the museum with a stop at the excellent book shop before you leave.
Very beautiful and classy gallery. In terms of quality, the exhibition reminded me of the Art History Museum in Vienna.
The building itself is also very elegant and worth seeing.
The café attempts to resemble a Viennese coffee house. The apple strudel wasn't bad either, just cold. I was still thinking about giving you a tip on how to serve it correctly. And especially with a teaspoon and dessert fork and not with a knife and fork for a main course. ;-)
Neue Gallery in NYC is a real gem. Compact but rich in exceptional German and Austrian art. Klimt's works are a highlight. Well-curated, intimate setting. A must-visit for art lovers seeking a unique experience.
