New York City Marriage Bureau reviews
19 I went to this place to get a copy of my marriage license which I lost. And I had no issues getting the new one.
I waited maybe 45 minutes and I was able to get what I needed.
No one answers the phone number that's provided. Just keeps ringing, then hangs up. Now I'm trying to figure out how else to contact the City Clerk/marriage bureau. Very frustrating!
I wanted to get married on the Fourth of July (2016) but the office was closed. Here's what I remember of the following day. It was hot, it was crowded and it was somewhat embarrassing and awkward, in a venereal disease clinic sort of way: all shapes, sizes, ages and colors and everyone knew why everyone else was there. For me it was a simple administrative function, utilitarian at best, to which no sentimentality attached. Well into our sixties, first time for both of us. I don't remember the ceremony; I don't remember who said, "I do, " first. Here is what I do remember: being ushered into a spartan bare-bones room by a woman with garishly discordant blue hair who uttered lines she had delivered countless times before in mechanical fashion and mispronounced both of our names. Memorable, alright
Classic govt building experience - kind of like the DMV. We only picked up our license here - it was alright. But you can still make it fun! Infuse your personality into the visit! Bring a photographer or friend. Carry flowers. People watch. Whatever works for you during your special weeks.
I just called the Manhattan location and spoke to Jacqueline who was the sweetest person ever! Not only was she sweet, but she was so helpful. I had a concern about our marriage certificate and ceremony appointment being so close together, and she put my fears at ease. Please don't listen to the negative reviews. They DO answer the phone and they DO help, and they are NOT rude. Thank you Jacqueline! You made my day:)
Don’t expect to have your marriage certificate easily. We requested it by mail, paid for it and never received it.
Omg! The staff and the Court Police here were so great on 4/27/2022. My husband and I had a 3: 30 appt for our ceremony and like any other woman. I was running late. My husband and our witness were on the inside waiting on me to arrive. Where was I you ask? Stuck in traffic still in Brooklyn trying to get to the Brooklyn Bridge. Now the last appt for this place is at 3: 45 and then they lock the place up like Fort Knox. Well they waited for me till the very last minute, I mean the staff clocks out at 4pm and I pulled up to the court house at 3: 59. They allowed us to have our ceremony and I am eternally grateful to the officers who gave us the opportunity to make it there when they didn't have to and the staff for making our day possible. Love really does conquer all.even time.
My Wife and I were married here, it's worth the trip to the city I have been to the Queens Marriage Bureau and while that one's nice with the old Train and all, I still prefer this Manhattan one over the Queens location & the pictures in front are grand!
This experience was incredibly stressful but ended up working out in the end so I wanted to let other people know. I needed a copy of my marriage records for immigration purposes. I submitted by mail my request on Feb. 4th and received my marriage records exactly six weeks later on March 18th. I was never able to get ahold of them via phone (I called probably 100 times) or by email or twitter. They did eventually respond to a request sent online after two weeks but by then I already received the records. So for people that are stressed thinking they can't get their records, they are processing them it will take about 6 weeks. If you are able to fly there and get it taken care of in person that seems to be the way to go, through Project Cupid you can find appointments and cancellations throughout the week.
I have called this office so many times over the last month and not once has anyone picked up the phone. I tried email, but that, too, was ignored.
Just wish someone would pick up the phone. Not only are their people with questions.there are also officiants with questions. Some of us want to do the right thing but need some guidance in doing so.if you don't pick up the phone and all the answers are NOT on the website.then what do we do?

Great and friendly staff, but the online system and lack of transparency is mind boggling.
Went and got our marriage license yesterday, the staff was friendly very quick and easy process
This process kind of inconvenient for those of us that’s active duty military, they barely update the website or answer the phone
Project Cupid site does NOT work. We cannot schedule an appointment for an in-person Wedding Ceremony. Tried to call numerous times and nobody picks up the phone. This is horrible.
Has anyone recently able to get any appointments? When do they open up new appointment? I tried to get my marriage license appointment but didn’t work. I got it in oyster bay in the end. Now I am trying to get appointment for marriage ceremony but can find any appointment either. Anyone have any idea?
I've paid for my marriage license and can't seem to get an appointment date more than 3 weeks now. Whoever is answering the calls at the office is extremely rude and unprofessional, all she said is check on Mondays, even when I told her I have been. This is most frustrating!
Actually got married here I 2020. The issue is I need a new marriage certificate and this place doesn't answer phone calls nor emails.
