Nob Hill Apartments, Syracuse NY

Serious mice problems, and apparently roaches too. Not enough maintenance staff hired and none working weekends. Common areas are consistently filthy. Constant issues with washers and dryers. I now see why you can't sign a lease for any less than a full year and why there are heavy penalties if you leave early. Would not recommend by any means.

UPDATE: Thank you for the reply - while I appreciate the response, this doesn't address the issue of nobody cleaning lobbies/elevators on weekends. It is REPULSIVE seeing food scraps on the floor from Saturday morning until Monday night. You would think weekends would be the most important times to have somebody cleaning since everybody is home. This is how mice/roach issues start - unaddressed trash and food left in common areas for multiple days.

Sandra was great and helped us with prompt response on maintenance issues. They also made sure the new apartment we shifted had a clean home with equipment.

The maintenance staff is poor trained, they delayed the work and even damaged my furniture. Lots of parties, noises, random people (not residents). Police came over very often. I no longer live here, but didn’t feel safe and comfortable back then.

Received a lot of information from Gary and Sandra about the property. New management seems to be making some great changes!

Not very quick responding to maintenance requests. Problems with our sink disposal and after 2 visits it is still not working. Ugh! And doorknob not fixed.

Can't wait to get out. Bugs, garbage, obnoxious neighbors. I haven't had a functioning dishwasher since I moved in last November. "Yeah I'll fix it. " "You need a new one. " Not my responsibility. I thought stealing other people's mail was a crime but tenants here love ripping open other people's Amazon packages when the Amazon drivers don't put them in the parcel pending machine even though they're supposed to. I've complained about obnoxious music and door slamming three times. Nothing. I don't know whose apartment is shown in those photos. Sketchy people. Broken glass. Stolen mail. Disgusting laundry rooms. I'm so done. Listen to the reviews. Not worth it.

At present, I have just renewed my lease and very unhappy with the service of this property.
The laundry is not kept clean. Has pet hair all over the machines, the floors have not been cleaned in weeks.
The gym is a none working facility. The lobby is full of flies, the 2nd elevator has not worked in over a month. The day to day maintenance is just not what is expected for what is offered in the site. Most of the amenities they speak of are just a none factor.

Do NOT move here. The buildings are extremely dirty and not clean outside around the buildings. Laundry rooms are gross and so is out back by the dumpsters so it smells ALL the time. They have CNY pest control come in and spray and they don’t come on time so you have to be out of your apartment for even longer. Emails and phones calls are not responded to. There is no communication & no one picks up after themselves. Not recommend.

Trash loaded and everywhere, someone was at the office complaining about throwing their toaster away due to roaches when I went to view apartments some hallways smell like cigarettes

Good community and huge apartment complex. I lived here for 5 years and had a good overall experience. Linda at the leasing office and receptionist Annam are the most pleasant people to work with!

TL;DR: Not wonderful, not terrible. Some glaring imperfections in the property buildings and grounds, but could be worse. The renovated apartments are decent. In my opinion, not worth the current rent rates they're asking (but is any apartment at the moment?).

Full Review:

I moved into my apartment in August 2020 and stayed through two rent cycles until August 2022. My first year rent (renovated one bed, one bath, no balcony, 4th floor, minus electric & WiFi) was $923/month, then $986/month, then they attempted to ask for >$1,250/month for my third year so I subsequently vacated.

Negatives:

1) Plenty of "landlord specials" around the apartment when I moved in. Warping trim. Chipped paint. Painted-over peephole and cable hookups. Lousy/inconsistent/incomplete paint jobs scattered around the rooms.

2) There was pretty much always some noise happening around my apartment and I was on the top floor. Yelling matches, car horns, music, television, etc.pretty much everything is audible to your neighbors. Communicating with others is difficult as well since most residents speak broken English only - diversity can be wonderful, but a language barrier is a language barrier, so maybe brush up on your Hindi, Mandarin, and Spanish.

3) You never know what you're going to smell or come across when you enter your building. During my time, my experiences included but are not limited to: sketchy loiterers, routine marijuana odors, other miscellaneous foul smells, undergarments and trash in stairwells, and dog pee in elevators (multiple times).

4) Snow removal was inconsistent. I understand that snow can be tough to keep up with. I've lived Upstate all my life; however, you should reliably have a plow service running your lots during a predicted heavy snowfall event. Long story short, I've had to shovel myself a spot before, so don't forget your shovel.

5) Fire drills and plumbing issues were both constant. Thankfully, my building (BLDG 4) wasn't plagued with the plumbing issues, but there always seemed to be a complex-wide email describing issues with low water pressure or no hot water in other buildings.

6) Apartment staff will enter your apartment monthly at a minimum and you don't get to refuse. This is usually just a "pest inspection", during which they mark a little box under your sink and leave. It felt a bit invasive to say the least.

7) Laundry was just under $4.00 per load if you use the washer AND the dryer. My clothes were never quite dry when they were finished, so I lugged my laundry back and forth to Rochester when I visited family.

8) Cops patrol the surrounding area very regularly. Crime rates seem high here, which makes sense because the complex is a short walk from some of the worst streets in the city. It wasn't entirely uncommon to hear of stabbings nearby on E Brighton, so I would avoid getting gas at the nearby gas stations past dark.

9) Packages were not always deposited in the lockers as advertised, so I had packages at my apt door, at the front lobby door, in the party room, and in the lockers. I never knew where my packages would end up.

POSITIVES:

1) Pleasant office staff.

2) Maintenance was alright and fairly easy to contact through the online system they have. Total rookies but they got the job done. They replaced my sink faucet, fixed a broken light fixture, and repaired a plumbing leak during my time there.

3) The renovated unit I got had beautiful stainless steel appliances that worked great the entirety of my stay (with the exception of a huge leak from the dishwasher the first time I ran it).

4) Proximity to expressways and recreation areas. I-81 & 481 are very close by, making it a quick jaunt to groceries, retail stores, restaurants, downtown, beautiful hiking trails, and nature parks.

5) I didn't have any insect problems.

All in all, I'm indifferent to the place. I didn't hate my stay here, but I definitely didn't love it. It does the job for a time, but I definitely wouldn't consider this as a long-term stay if I were you.

Absolutely disgusting place to live, it's like the requirement for employment in the office is to be completely dismissive and ignorant, packages frequently stolen, roaches and mice on every single floor, super loud, cops are always there. I don't recommend this place to ANYONE.
Ask about how many people get stuck in the elevators, and how slow the offices response time is with contacting the right people to fix issues.
Trust the other bad reviews because after a 15 month lease, I can ASSURE YOU that they are accurate. It's not worth typing the entire rant that this complex wholeheartedly deserves. Please do not move here!

Nob hill used to be great place but the past two years and up now it is the worse apartments to live in, last year somone broke my car window twice while park in the parking lot and when, i want to the office, they couldn't do anything about it but rudness from a lady name Elizbeth, as well this year the front morrie was smashed, still nothing was done, there is smell of dog pee on the hallways etc.worse soo darty and too much bugs and they are not doing anything to fix these problems.

I have been here for 3 years and 9 months, the room was nice before they change management company, the staffs are still the same but the new company clearly only care about how to bragging on the ads. The new remodeled units are done by poor craft, and they decided to remove the food disposal under sink. The poor craft and food residue in sink and sewer brought a huge issue of pest, the roaches. I stopped cooking for almost 2 year, because you can see roaches in the kitchen everyday no matter how much cleaning you did.

I had a wonderful experience with Nob Hill. Annam, at the front desk, made me feel comfortable, was welcoming, and helped to fulfill all my needs. She was well informed, fast to answer all of my questions and concerns, and incredibly personable. The shining star of the whole experience.

Annam was very welcoming! Was assuring to kniw my daughter would be a applying to live in the community where she grew up.

Moving out after less than a year here. All the buildings are infested with cockroaches and the management can not seem to resolve the issue and ignores/ is unresponsive to complaints regarding the issues. Building common areas are also absolutely filthy, spilled drinks, empty beer cans, trash dropped all over the elevators and floors. Elevators constantly not working. Mail room packages have been stolen multiple times. Hallway smells like weed all day. Only giving the property one star because the renovated units themselves are nice on the inside.

Nob hill apartments is turning into the skyline apartments. On any given day you may find windows kicked in, drunks passed out in the day room at 9am, or a beautiful scenery of trash when looking out your windows. Instead waking up to birds chirping you’ll be waken up to police and ambulance sirens, or arguments down the hall. If you ever need to quench your thirst you can go in the staircase and find a variety of different half filled beer cans to choose from!

Sarah the property manager at Nob Hill Apartments in Syracuse NY and her wonderful assistant Annam are absolutely an amazing team!
I’m in such a stressful and chaotic place in my life at the moment and Sarah/Annam really added sunshine. They made my move-in process painless and pleasant. I’m very happy I chose Nob Hill Apartments?

The carrier put my package in wrong box, but they showed the picture my package was delivered, so it’s hard to argue that I didn’t receive my package.
I went to Nobhill office, ANNAM offer to help, it’s pretty cold in March in Syracuse, but ANNAM just walk to my apartment opened all the locks one by one to help me find my package, I really touched and appreciated about that, it saved me a lot trouble. ANNAM is one of the best employee of nobhill office I ever know.whoever is her boss, should give her a promotion lol
