Nestled between the woods of Great Neck and hidden amongst the offices of Northwell Health lays the historical and legendary North Shore Fencing Club, specializing in the discipline of epee fencing.
North Shore Fencing Club was founded decades ago by the fabled coach, Mr. Vladimir Gofman. Mr. Gofman’s reputation and results as a coach has been well documented in the annals of US fencing, his personal impacts have elevated the level of epee fencing in this country.
After his passing, Mr. Gofman’s son and current head coach, Mr. Alexander Gofman was able to reinvigorate the club by assembling a team of world-class coaches to put the club through its Renaissance period. Alex has honored his father’s legacy on the sport by maintaining high standards of excellence while producing numerous winners of all ages.

The club caters to fencers of all ages and skill levels. Each student upon entry is reviewed for both physical and mental prowess to find the coach specifically fit for the individual’s developmental pathway, ensuring maximal potential achievements.

Our family arrived at the club as a transfer from another local club and soon found the atmosphere of NSFC to be welcoming and family oriented.
The camaraderie relationship between the students is inspirational, helping each other grow in an environment free from malignant competition. Parents of fencers from various background are actively engaged in chat groups to exchange ideas and information to help all members grow. The realization is that we all grow as our team strengthens.
I am proud to call the club home for our three young children, the lifelong friendships we’ve forged here are truly priceless. My wife and I have picked up fencing ourselves as a hobby but also part of the HIIT workout regimen. We are awestruck when we have the privilege to fence world class fencers – identities protected – during open fencing hours, fencing “celebrities” sighting each and every weekend!

Currently the club coaching staff comprises of Mr. Alexander Gofman, Mr. Alexander Zurabishvili, Ms. Xiaoyan (Bonnie) Bao, Mr. Sergei Gubarev, and Mr. Ivan Zagoruiko.

North Shore Fencers Club is absolutely fantastic. But it's the coaching that really sets North Shore Fencers Club apart. The coaches have years of experience and always teach and train at the highest level. They are patient, encouraging, and always willing to go the extra mile to help fencers improve their skills. The training sessions are well-structured and challenging, but also a lot of fun with games and other activities mixed in. All the fencers and coaches are so friendly and supportive of one another, it is really like a family. Overall, I highly recommend North Shore Fencers Club!

NSFC is the best fencing club in Long Island. My daughter, 14, has been coming here for years, for both private lessons and competition classes. The coaches are knowledgeable, caring, and attentive.

Our son has learned to fence at this club since he was 8 years old. The environment at this club is like a family. Apart from the superior training, he has become life long friends with the other fencers no matter the age. Alex Gofman has provided the skills to train young fencers to accomplish great results in regional and national tournaments. And there has been an increase in talented coaches that continue to grow this club. Alex Zurabishvili, the head epee coach from Columbia University, is now coaching the students at North Shore. The other fencers at the club consist of young beginners all the way to NCAA champions!

We started about a year ago. My daughter told me she wanted to fence, so I was like “ok”. I searched around and found a few nearby. I called all three places and talked to someone. And I chose Northshore Fencer’s Club. The place is nice and clean. The coaches are very professional. They know what they are doing. All the kids are happy and working hard.

After a few months, my daughter’s friends join the club as well. All the parents are happy too.

Coach Alex is strict, which I think is good. If he sees the kids are chatting, not fencing, he comes to them and asks them to go back fencing. Coach Sergei is nice and professional. He is always there, teaching and fixing the weapons. People are nice and helpful.

If you want to fence, definitely give Northshore Fencers' Club a try!

Our sons have been trained by Coach Alex Zurabishvili over the past 10 years. He has the ability to build on the strengths of the individual fencer, rather than training them all the same. He is great with kids and competitive athletes alike.

North Shore Fencers club is a professional club with a friendly environment.   They have multiple coaches including a coach from Columbia university and a coach who has been a national champion for years.   They have classes dedicated to various skill levels.   They encourage your child to enjoy the sport and become competitive.   All the kids are friendly and supportive to each other.   The coaches go out of their way to travel and coach during various competitions.   Both my kids go here and love it.   I totally recommend to anyone who wants to learn Epee Fencing.

Amazing fencing club! I started fencing here in high school, and thanks to everything I learned, I was able to place in my high school league, and even win awards. The coaches are awesome and its an amazing place to either learn how to fence or improve your skills.

North Shore Fencers Club is a super good place to not only learn fencing but to grow connections with people as well. The community there is truly amazing. The coaches are truly dedicated and determined to make everyone the best fencer as they can and the people there are great to learn from and practice with. Definitely the ideal place to fence.

My son has been fencing at North Shore for several years. Under the coaching of Alex Gofman and other great coaches at the club, I have seen my son develop technical skills as well as the competitive attitude to hopefully be a top level college fencer. And now with the addition of Alex Zurabishvili, who is also the head Epee coach at Columbia University, my son can experience college level training and fence with current division 1 fencers from around the nation at the club. The talent level of the students are high. There are national champions as well as NCAA champions that fence here. The environment is very friendly and family oriented. Apart from fencing, the kids have all becoming very close and supportive of each other. There are even the occasional parties for the students. The club is convenient located in Great Neck.
