North St Moose River reviews
4 Nice place to paddle with the family. Pretty lazy ride from the bridge back into Old Forge, goes through an interesting mix of forest with some huge white pines to see as well.
With two kids, lots of breaks to play on sand bars it took around 4 hours to reach the town.
This stretch of the river is very scenic with some challenging conditions. The kayak launch at Carter road is very steep, you need two people to bring down your boat. As soon as you are in the water you have to navigate some tree trunks that are cut and looks like tires in the water. There is no cell service the whole trip to North street/Tobile trail. Recommend not to kayak/canoe alone, a buddy that can help if your boat gets stuck is important. Once in the water enjoy the flow and the scenery.
We kayaked the river 3x while in Old Forge for a week. Tried a couple of different entries points. Some obstacles but nothing we couldn't maneuver around. Would be more difficult with a lower water level. We are leisurely kayakers so it took about 3 hrs. Enjoyed the trips.
Beautiful area for fishing I'd think. Only caught a bunch of tiny small mouth.
