Old John's Luncheonette reviews
17 Serious draft thru the front vestibule, I don’t recommend sitting at the bar…
That being, said, 4th time I’ve been here in the past 2 months- food is on the greasier side, it’s pretty much tasteless…I tried to give this place a number of chances but it really fell short of expectations every time.
1st was the burger- tasted like rubber
2nd was a breakfast that was very bland
Twice I had a grilled cheese- it was decent but once again very greasy.
The fries are just no good. I had the apple pie here too- it was just a plate full of apples falling out of dough.
I don’t understand how this place has patrons.
Small diner on the upper west. Service was excellent and the food was very good for a table of 6. Drinks were always refilled and special requests were met the first time.
A nice spot for breakfast.
This place was a well-oiled machine! Service was quick and friendly. My latkes were crispy, and the lemon vinaigrette was bright and zingy. Would've come in at $20 total with coffee but splurged on fresh-squeezed OJ. Definitely recommend!
I ordered the old John's cheeseburger which was cooked to perfection the only thing missing were The Onion rings which they do not have
We come here all the time with kids. Great food, friendly staff. For families - the outdoor booth will keep your kids contained and pleasantly sequestered (your toddler can tantrum themselves to their hearts content). Also - note that there are kid options *not* on the menu: chicken fingers, kids burger or grilled cheese.
My personal favourite is the steak frites, much better than you would expect at a dinner.
This quiet diner was a fantastic find for us. We wanted a nice authentic American diner to eat in. The staff were very nice & accommodating when taking our order. The food arrived within minutes. I had the burger & it tasted fantastic. I would 100% recommend to anyone for a nice American diner. The food was very well priced. We were expecting it to end up costing at least double what the final cost was. It's excellent. Go HERE!
Have been to Old John's now on a number of occasions and found the food and service to both be terrific. Relatively well-priced and has a good variety of options. My only critique is that they do not always honor reservations made through Resy on Google, and recommend that they fix this so it is clear and they aren't turning away reservations
Great experience, one of the best diners we visited in nyc. Really cosy setting with friendly servers. Food was speedy and tasty
Nice place to try classic American diner experience. Dishes are delicious, stuffs are friendly, ambiance is cute.
Food was great, served in a timely manner. Great for having a meal before you go to the theater.
Thank you.
Usually very good - just today cleaner tried to spray Lysol while we were still eating. He argued & tried to spray as I explained we were still eating! Unacceptable!
This diner is cute. They have ice cream and cocktails that are actually made well.
I recommend bacon, and ice cream. Coconut if they have it.
Great vibe, mix of modern and vintage. Friendly service. Good and affordable menu. Has something for everyone
We came here to have a quieter breakfast and we were absolutely not disappointed! The food was delicious. The service was fabulous and we really enjoyed the decor and the chilled music. Nice and close to Central Park. If you want to start your day here and walk across highly recommended
Very yummy food and nice new york city diner vibe. Egg cream was odd tho, but not in a bad way
Kathy is so great, she always takes care of us on our Sunday ritual brunch for the past year ️ Food is always great
Classic New York diner conveniently located near Central Park. The food is well-priced compared to most options around and allows for a quick and opportune brunch/lunch before delving deeper into the city. The outside area is the place to eat as it provides a quintessential NY experience. The Clubs are good; both the the chicken and the turkey, with the truffle fries being a good addition to the table. The ice cream floats are also a good choice. What the restaurant lacks in service, it makes up for in value.
