Ootoya Times Square reviews
16Waited 20+ min for my dish after ordering. Sukiyaki was overcooked. Beef is not tender at all, soup got thick and vegetables lost texture. Servers didn’t notice any of this as you don’t get much attention from them. For a $32 signature dish (35 if you order rice), this is not okay. Should’ve gone to a sukiyaki udon place.
A Japanese restaurant that's not ramen, and it's delicious. The plates come in hot and bubbling and service is great. The plates may not come together even if you order them in one go. If you want to eat with friends it might be a bit awkward watching others eat while you're hungry. Thankfully, it'd not a long wait. A delicious experience.
First, the service is excellent. I was in a rush and they were able to expedite.
Second, the menu is diverse in terms of Japanese food options.
Third, the food is good, but if you regularly eat Japanese or have been to Tokyo, this place will feel very average or slightly above average.
Fourth, without a reservation, you should expect 45-60 minute wait.
Finally, the place is priced for New York, which is to say it’s quite expensive.
Wow! I walked in, was warmly greeted, placed my Togo order and it was absolutely sensational. The pork kimchee dish was still hot and well wrapped and the gyoza was cooked to perfection. DEFINITELY recommend and will be back!
Food served better than expected and portions were perfect for lunch we had this afternoon. Prices and fresh food, many items to choose from, highly recommended.
Ootoya is a corporate Japanese restaurant. I've often dined at locations in Japan. This location is situated just off of Bryant Park. The food is very good. The service is attentive and the scene is quaint and quiet. I enjoy eating here often. Some of my favorites here are the Sukiyaki, Tonkitsu and Mackerel dishes.
Very disappointed!
Washu Beef sukiyaki for $32 was chewy cheap beef like from a steak sandwich that had little flavour.
Kathy Ju had wet rice with breaded “fried” pork that had no flavour and the consistency of boiled meat.
Never ever visit this place again.
Would definitely recommend getting a reservation here, the takitori ju is really good:) and they give u a very interesting powder!
So many options to pick from as well!
Hidden gem between Times Square and Bryant Park. Authentic Japanese food at reasonable prices.
Was fortunate to be able to go there for lunch right before Pandemic hit. The rice at this place.best I've tasted outside of Japan, period. The space was a bit small though, so the wait might be long.
Absolutely tasteful set japanese food. Heart/stomach warming during the cold days. I had not to wait during a busy saturday lunch time. Cozy place and I would recommend if you’re around the area!
Food has no taste. Really poor value. The only explanation this place can still operate in NYC is it’s a tourist trap. Avoid at all cost and just go to any of the other Japanese places in the city.
Worst ever! When you place an order online - it will give you a ready by time but when you arrive nothing is ready. They kept me waiting by more than 30 mins and the reception lady didn’t even feel bad at all (she doesn’t understand English and asked me to repeat multiple times). She just responded the “kitchen is busy! “WTF!
Had the Saba specialty mackerel add rice. The pork gyosa to start and Suntory whisky throughout. SUPERB! And great service from a very welcoming staff. Thank you will return soon! (41st Street)
I love Ootoya. It’s my go to when I need to take a break from the office and enjoy some alone time during my lunch hour. Always reliable, always delicious.
