Over 2 hours to get a sonogram, when you have a appointment. I have never been so long in a medical office. I understand emergencies happen, but this is completely uncalled for. If your late they reschedule or can bill you. But they can keep you waiting. Terrible.

This review is about MELISSA PURTELL. During my stay there I had the unpleasant experience of listening to her demean people. She was so unbelievably rude staff. It is as if she gets off on making everyone else miserable. When I was talking to my nurses about it they almost seemed scared of her. I found out from a friend who works at one of the Syracuse hospitals that she not only was awful to the nurses there who had to help her but that she harassed one of their employees (who apparently was a new hire to the medical field and still in training) to the point that she used her connections in the healthcare field to get that employee fired. What a terrible lady and a terrible representation of Oswego health.

My friend and I came to Oswego Hospital Emergency Department at 2: 30pm on April 27th and have yet to be seen by anybody and it is currently 5: 46pm. Waiting this long to be seen in the ED is absolutely outrageous. It is clear that the staff working here do not care enough. I can only imagine how chaotic and hard it is to be working in the ED but to be in the waiting room for nearly four hours is ridiculous. If you don’t have enough staff, rooms, etc…for the amount of people coming in, close down the ED. If anyone is having an actual emergency I recommend going anywhere else but here. The service and care provided is absolutely horrendous. If negative stars were an option I would’ve rated it -10000/5.

Updated Review: Trying to pay this bill and their billing staff is extremely rude and unhelpful. Called 4 times for just basic info clarification and really don't need to be hung up on and yelled at.

Original Review: Cut my finger and needed 3 stitches. They were super quick and very friendly, entire process took about 75 minutes from check-in to check-out. We are lucky to have such a great local hospital.

I’ve been sitting here in the waiting room over two hours, I came in because I’m very sick being tested for Covid and the flu. I asked at hour and half and they said the charge nurse has my results and have to wait to be seen in the back for results… others come and go and we the respiratory patients sit and wait… we are just as important as the rest if not more with breathing issues… I was told to go to Syracuse if I wanted faster response and results… if I would have known I was going to continue to wait and wait it unfortunately probably would have been the better decision to go to Syracuse. Very disappointing at all this.

Waited 8 hours for my baby who had labored breathing to be seen. Some people were there longer than us in the waiting room.

If you come to the ER you can expect to wait. 5 to 6 hours minimum. Most likely they won't fix you. Better off staying home and caring for your own self

Emergency department is clearly understaffed. You can wait 6 hours with kidney problems and not be seen. You can be taken by ambulance and they still stuff you in the waiting room for hours on end. Let’s not forget how important your kidneys are, and they do not care nor find it important. I will NEVER be back. Upstate can have my business. Cause they take the priority cases unlike this hospital, they like to stuff you in the waiting room hoping you get sick of waiting.

My grandmother was in this hospital and was told she has 1 hr to 24 hrs left to live. We had called to talk to her or at least video chat to say our goodbyes and the nurse said she would give us a call back and never did. We tried to call again after an hour but nobody would answer the phone or they would hang up on us. That night she had passed away so thank you Oswego hospital now I’ll never be able to see her or at least say goodbye

A mother’s job is to protect her children and do whatever it takes to keep them safe. We go to extreme lengths to provide the absolute best for them, never cutting corners or doubting our next course of action. In their eyes, we have to always appear confident, strong, and put together. Somehow though when your child is sick or needs care beyond what we can provide, it all goes out the window. As a parent, you then feel helpless.

Full disclaimer, I do work at Oswego Health, however this weekend though I had the opportunity to see firsthand the level of care our team provides as my daughter was a patient in the Emergency Room. My job that day was being a mom and nothing else.

{A patient’s experience through the lens of her mother}

As we arrived at Oswego Hospital, Maddie was very anxious. She’s a very healthy teen and this was probably the second time in her life she’s been to the hospital.

Though she was wearing a mask at the time, as Renee Downs greeted us, you could tell she wore a smile every day as part of her uniform. She was kind and empathetic as Maddie shared how she felt.

Even when we had to go back to quickly sign the registration paperwork, Jodie Sheldon too was super sweet and wished Madison well.

Minutes later, Jeremy Donohue brought her into the triage area to gather her vitals and was genuinely concerned about her symptoms. He even tried to lift her mood with a little humor, which unfortunately resulted in the typical teenage response, but we’ll chalk that up to her not feeling well. Still, though, Jeremy was fantastic as one of the first to care for her.

We were not in the waiting room long before Renee took us back to meet one of the most amazing RNs, John Munger! John was a ball of energy, yet he had this calming and reassuring side to him that was just what Maddie needed. He was so gentle, attentive, and just perfect. He always addressed her by name as he came into the room too which made Maddie feel special. I can’t thank John enough because I too was feeding off of his energy and positivity and honestly that’s what helped keep me calm given the situation.

Dr. Tully was also a part of her care team and he too was phenomenal. As soon as he walked into the room he welcomed her to Oswego Hospital and assured her that she was in the right spot. Throughout our time there he entertained all of her questions and you could instantly see her anxiety diminish. Even when he pushed on her stomach and the tears ran down her cheeks and he explained the need for Imaging to see if she had appendicitis, you could tell she felt protected and safe.

When it was finally time for Imaging, probably one of the most comic reliefs Maddie had was Paul Glitz. The moment he walked into her room and even after her scan, he lifted her spirits. I’m not sure if he was doing this intentionally or if this was just who he was, Paul made a scary situation just a little less scary.

As I waited in the hallway a familiar face jogged by, Amber Shumway. She stopped for just a moment to see if I was ok and gave me peace of mind and assured me that her team would take good care of Maddie.

After her results came back, Dr. Tully and John delivered the great news that surgery wasn’t needed and she would be off on her way and with the help of some medication her symptoms should subside. Both Maddie and I sighed with relief!

No matter their role that day, each person showed kindness, and compassion and Maddie could tell they cared about her as a person.

I never doubted for a second when we jumped in the car that morning what hospital we were going to.

I knew we were in the right place and I was confident my team at Oswego Health would care for her.

On the car ride home, Maddie leaned over and grabbed my hand, and thanked me for being so strong and never leaving her side.

To that, I would like to in turn thank Renee, Jodie, Jeremy, John, Dr. Tully, Paul, and Amber. Without you that day… well let’s just say, as a mother I would have felt helpless.

For that I am forever grateful.

Good evening,

My name is Williamina Arduini. My son and I visited the ER in Oswego -NY late this past Tuesday into early Wednesday morning. His BP was around 217/102.

We honestly have not been to Oswego ER in years. I was impressed by how clean and friendly everyone there was. I’m used to going to an ER where you are pushed like cattle and just a number. At Oswego ER as soon as we walked in we were immediately spoke to by the receptionist. Within 10 minutes we were in triage. When I say everyone we made contact with was friendly and professional I mean everyone including the security guard who gave me my name tag.

His BP was still very high. We went to the room and his nurse was just as friendly and I apologize for not remembering her name. When Dr. Syrett came in he was very calm and soothing talking with us both. He wasn’t condescending in anyway. The Dr.explained a little about where he was from and his schooling then proceeded to explain that they would do bloodwork and an EKG. My son has never had bloodwork drawn and is terrified of needles. The nurse was so delicate with him physically and with her kind words to calm him while she drew his blood.

There was a girl who came in for him to fill out paperwork and then another girl who put the monitors on his chest. I don’t want them to be forgotten either. They were both very friendly as well.

Dr. Syrett came back in with blood results and checked behind my sons eyes confirming that he has had HBP for quite some time. With his guidance we decided to have him start a low dose of BP meds. He explained how it was my sons decision. He also explained what he saw in the back of his eyes and what it showed. I can’t express how thankful I am of the way he spoke to my son and his sense of humor to put him at ease.

There was a more urgent patient that came in and we were waiting for discharge papers. Dr. Syrett took a quick moment when he could to stick his head in the door and let us know he was doing the paperwork ASAP. I can’t tell you how many times we have been “forgotten” by other doctors in all types of situations. I intended to thank him before we left but the other patient needed him. I know this review is a lot but I really wanted to make sure the hospital and staff all know of how appreciated they are.

When we left the first thing my son said to me was that Dr. Syrett was so nice and how he was glad that everyone was so friendly and how it helped him to calm down.
