Peter Luger Steak House reviews
16 I’ve been coming to this steak house since 2015
It’s my favorite steakhouse in NY.
But I’m so disappointed today.
First the steak was cold. The order was for medium rare but it must’ve been sitting there for a while before it was served. It wasn’t even warm anymore. The waiter took it back and then brought back the same steak reheated and it was well done. The manager came and said he would bring us a new steak.
That steak came out well done.
When the manager came to the table again, he told me that is what medium rare looks like and that the plate was hot so it continued cooking. However this was not true. The steak already came out well done. For the price of this restaurant, I expected better specially today I was celebrating the anniversary with my husband!
First time in the Great Neck location! It's been awhile since I've been to Lugers and we ordered the sliced tomatoes with onion, thick cut bacon, crabcake, dry aged steak, German potatoes, creamed spinach, and French fries. Steak was well cooked medium rare, although it didn't come sizzling, so it was only lukewarm and was a little under salted. For dessert, we had cheesecake, key lime pie, ice cream sundae, and apple struddel, all delicious! Overall, great service, food and ideal spot for birthday dinners or special occasions!
Delicious food, just enjoyed the suggested rib eye and steak for two with the family!
The exceptional service made the experience even more enjoyable and special, Lorik is the best! It was pleasure to meet Mark! Ask for either for them for amazing service! Will be returning soon!
I highly recommend this restaurant, the food was amazing and the service was fantastic. Special thanks to Lorik. He made our first time at Peter Luger very enjoyable.
Being invited to eat at Peter Luger Steakhouse is definitely a bucket list item - especially when the bill is picked up by someone else.
While the steaks are featured, I've enjoyed steaks more at some other restaurants.
Going to Peter Luger Steakhouse is an experience in perfect service and food opulence.
Our waiter was continuously monitoring our dining needs. He took care of the table without our party feeling forced or rushed.
The food came out in perfectly timed stages.
The salad course - a play on the iceberg lettuce wedge, was the best (most flavorful and accurately prepared) part of the meal. Crispy pork belly (thick chunks of rendered bacon) adorned fresh lettuce and tomato with aromatic blue cheese crumbles resembling small delicious boulders. The salad was worth its $22/plate price tag.
With 4 changes of dinner plates and silverware, 1 large basket of delicious rolls, 5 fantastic salads, 2 giant steaks, pan fried potatoes, spinach, mushrooms, 4 East coast lobsters, desserts, and 3 bottles of wine.
Total cost:
just over $1,500.00
If you have the where-with-all to spend a little of that hard earned Income on a dinner experience, it's worth the trip to experience Peter Luger Steakhouse in Long Island, NY.
We dined this evening January 15,2024 at the Great Neck location. It was amazing! We started off with the tomato and onion salad. It was just a sliced beefsteak tomato with white onion but when you put the Peter Luger Steak Sauce on it, it went to another level. The sauce is amazing. Reminds me of the cocktail sauce you get with shrimp but thinner and more tastier. So good I bought 2 bottles. The steak for two was incredible. The filet mignon side was like butter. We had creamed spinach and German fried potatoes. Delicious! For dessert we had the apple strudel with the schlag. This schlag is amazing. You just have to try it. It’s the best whipped cream I’ve ever had. Absolutely a delicious meal. Service was great. Our waiter Lorik was the best! So helpful, friendly and personable. He knew exactly how we should order. It was perfect. I highly recommend and will be back again definitely sooner than later. Kim and John M.
Check minus to the obnoxious man at the front desk wHO MUST be a family member. So ill equipped for customer service. We waited an hour and 15 minutes for a reserved table and we’re lectured about the wait time No one apologized Disgraceful.
You don’t need a menu at Peter Lugers.
Ask for Lorik and you will have the best service ever!
It's small and hectic, but it's nice to chat and eat to your heart's content. The dessert is also great.

Peter Luger is a world-famous restaurant that many steakhouses have spun off from over the years. While the original restaurant is in Brooklyn, we visited the Great Neck location and had a wonderful overall experience. Peter Luger is known for their steak sauce, and aside from Wolfgang's sauce, which I like slightly better, Lugar's is the best steak sauce that I have ever had. They also have wonderful desserts. Needless to say, we all had a great time!
It would be best if you call in and make a reservation for the fastest seating.
There is valet parking, as well as street parking.
The bacon for the appetizer is great. So we're the bread if you dip them both in the Peter Luger sauce.
The drinks were ok, the dark German beer was pretty good, I ordered old fashion, they used regular ice cubes so it melts really quick. If you don't like the concentrated taste, great. If you do, it's going to water down the drink fast. So order it after the steaks are served if you like your drink with your food.
The steaks looked great, however, without the Peter Luger sauce it's ok at best. The mushroom and German potatoes were burnt. Not sure if it's supposed to be served like that.
Our waiter is very much on point with providing outstanding service.
The desserts are great, loved the coffee caramel cone. The sundae was mediocre. Cheese cake was ok, fudge is not memorable. The Apple strudel was pretty good. They have a large bowl of cream for food pairing.
However, for the price, it was rather lackluster.
Reason for the stars off, it's a steak house I get it but the drinks such as old fashioned should be served with large cubes. Or at least offer it.
While the steaks look great, the taste wasn't mind blowing.
This is my second visit, it was ok on both accounts.
Just returned from an excellent steak dinner at Peter Lugar’s in Great Neck. Porterhouse steak excellent, service and atmosphere also excellent. Our waiter, Lorik was friendly, accommodating and obviously into making diners comfortable and happy. It was a really nice way to start the holiday season and we certainly look forward to returning. Thank you Lorik and thanks to the Great Neck Peter Lugar’s staff.
Incredible steak. By far the best one I've ever had! The bacon strips are phenomenal!
I recommend ordering the water in the glass bottle, the water they give for free is fluoridated tap water.
All in all, a great experience and sweet ambiance.
Classic American steakhouse with no frills and pretentiousness. We have been to both locations and find the service at the Great Neck location to be a bit friendlier and always fun. The food, drinks and desserts are always consistent and delicious. Ask for Peter! He always make us laugh and makes dining that much more enjoyable!
This place is great and very classic this place is a great steak house i cant wait to go back
