Greek Restaurant Pylos reviews
13The food here was not bad! The service on the other hand was absolutely disgusting! We reserved on OpenTable there was a slot for 11pm. As we ordered and the food came out the waiting staff literally stood next to us (I kid you not less than a metre away) while we ate and kept asking us if we were finished. One of the staff actually came up to us while I was midway about to take a bite and said if I wanted to pack any of the food to go. We felt so uncomfortable we did not finish eating and honestly just left as they seemed desperate to go home. My advice for them next time do not accept reservations if you are all trying to go home. Worst $200 I spent to be honest!
Good food however the people who work there not so cool won’t ever spend another cent there again
I think of this place at least once a month but unfortunately given that I dont live in NYC, I only eat here once annually.
This place is phenomenal!
It’s cozy, sophisticated in it’s design & decor & focuses on what all restaurants should - THE FOOD!
The shrimp noodles (I can’t recall the name) is incredible & strongly recommend getting this.
Our experience started with our lovely waitress Maria C helping us choose a wine.which was perfect. I was going to go with the chicken but she gently convinced me to go with the lamb shank. We were then treated to warm pita bread and yummy homemade hummus. We then enjoyed the melted cheese appetizer.don't ask me what it was called but you will see it on the menu! Then our meals came. Wow! I'm glad I had the veal! It was soooo good! My husband got the lamb chops and they were delicious! We ended the night with their chocolate mousse! Soooo good! Between the wonderful service and the delicious food this restaurant is so worth going to!
Fun location. Nice atmosphere. The grilled fish is really tasty. And the service is super friendly and efficient. I’ll be back!
Everything was just amazing. The appetizers and main dishes were pitch perfect. Amazing taste and presentation. The lamb chops are a must. Service was grand and the waitress Maria made us feel at home with her amazing service and great conversation.
This restaurant is so good the food fascinated me. And the attention was the best. This place has the best pita bread I’ve ever tasted.
Food is very fresh and delicious. Waiter Alexander was super helpful, generally, all the stuff was very nice. The patrons looked classy, place looked classy. Dorado fish was excellent.
Good, not great Greek food. We ordered mostly every appetizer, so our assessment may not be accurate. We were not wowed. Service was good, helpful and attentive.
Delicious as always. The Greek salad is well balanced. The calamari is fried to perfection and don’t get me started on the grilled fish. My absolute favorite. Dino was great also. Five stars. Now please bring alcohol so i can have a dry martini with my favorite drink.
Food: 3.5/5
Service: 4.5/5
We ordered the most popular entrees but I wasn't really impressed.
Lamb chop: the grilled flavor is nice but doesn't have too much seasoning
Lamb shank: it's braised and falls off the bone. The sauce probably has some balsamic vinegar which is interesting but it doesn't go into the meat - might be better if the shank were marinated longer.
Whole fish: nice and has char grilled flavor. It's fresh but is a pretty standard entree compared to other Greek restaurants.
Greek salad: like it. The feta cheese is very nice and generous portion.
Overall I think it's a place for Greek food and wine that won't stand out but good enough. Reservations highly recommend especially for Friday and weekend.
The place is very cute and I like the interesting ceiling decor. The dim lighting gives it a more romantic, intimate vibe that's perfect if you're on a date. They start you off with hummus dip and be sure to look under the napkins since there is pita hidden underneath. We ordered the 3 melted cheeses, meatballs, Moussaka, baby lamb chops and the phyllo pastries for dessert. Unlike some places that reduce their portions significantly during Restaurant Week, the portions here are standard size so there was so much food! I thought the meatballs were lacking in seasoning and tasted very bland, I paired it with the salty cheese and this solved the issue. The lamb chops were delicious but slightly overcooked as I asked for medium rare. The Moussaka was very good.
We went to Pylos for dinner in late June and had an odd and uncomfortable experience. We've both been to the restaurant numerous times before over the years. The food has always been good, along with the Greek wine selection and cozy atmosphere, it's always been pleasant (the lamb shank was always a favorite). But after what happened on June 21st, neither of us will be back. About half way through our appetizer, two women speaking fluent Greek were seated next to us on the banquet in the back of the restaurant. The host/manager a thirty-something woman greeted the pair fondly in Greek. About the time that we received our entrees, the duo next to us each proceeded to do separate audio and visual Facetimes on speaker and at full volume. We were both shocked but not totally surprised. After about 5 minutes of this, during which it was hard for us to have a conversation and certainly unpleasant, we asked our neighbors to at a minimum use earbuds so that we did not have to listen to their full volume conversation or if they wanted to be polite, to go outside. Needless to say they were irritated and tried to age shame us for.not being with it enough to know that this is completely acceptable behavior. And apparently, Pylos agrees. I told the host/manager what was going on and she came over to check out the situation but did not do anything to remedy the problem or offer to move them or us for that matter. As a result, we rushed through our entree and asked for the bill. Pylos was so tone deaf about the situation that they asked if we wanted to stay and share a dessert on the house when what we really wanted to do was get the hell out of there and never come back. Really unfortunate handling of an uncomfortable situation.
