Queen of Sheba reviews
15Tasty Ethiopian food. Cozy place. Quick service. Most accessible Ethiopian restaurant for Midtown.
Great Ethiopian cousine.and great hospitality.
Philipos, the owner was so welcoming.
The ambiance was really great and the food tasted good too.
The menus were iPads so it was very easy iterating through the menu. We started off with the honey wine and the meat Sambousa. The wine was tasty. The meat in the sambousa was juicy but the outside crust was over fried and tasted a little burnt.
For mains we had The Taste Of Sheba which was a platter with samples lots of dishes on the menu, everything tasted good and we got plenty of injera. We also added an extra portion of Tibs Wot.
The food was very good. Also generous portions.
As for the service, it was fine. I only wish they asked if a costumer familiar with an Ethiopian cuisine and if not explained a bit about it and how to eat it.
Also some flexibility in changing the dishes in the assorted plate would be appreciated.
Walked some distance to have dinner. Was told cash only. They sent me to ATM which led to my card being blocked and unable to use thereafter.
Vegetarian platter for lunch. Filling and delicious. Ample injera and was surprised at how few napkins needed. Quite enjoyable.
Strange and unmotivated service. When we got the bill (after a really long wait, and not a busy restaurant) it was added tip of 20% for "large group". Which I understand if its a large group. We were 4. Waitress spilled wine on 1 of our guests, a lot. Her "sorry" was as "sorry, not sorry". She knew we were not happy with the service - so clearly wanted to secure her tip. When I tried to talk to her about the issues, she was very defensive - like I was taking up her precious time - by then in a nearly empty. Will probably not come back, and so should not you unless you want to be abused by unmotivated staff.
The food was good.
I wish the service was better.
They automatically add 20% as tip.
So please check the bill before you add extra tip.
Terrible. Simply terrible. In addition to the terrible entree the injera did not have a fermented type of taste, and it had something in it that felt rough like wood-fiber. Ugh!
The worst Ethiopian restaurant. Very Dirty and the food is the worst. Don't waste your time and ours, just close the business if you can't do it right!
Ok food but the ongoing abusive service from the waitress was not called on. Will probably not be back
Good food but terrible and slow service. Food is good - been there many times - but today our waitress managed to 1) spill quite a lot of red wine in one of my guests - there was slight "sorry" out of her mouth - like she bumped into someone on the subway. When we got the bill (after a really long wait, and not a busy restaurant) it was added tip of 20% for "large group". Which I understand if its a large group. We were 4. She knew we were not happy with the service - so clearly wanted to secure her share. When I tried to talk to her about the issues, she was very defensive - like I was taking up her precious time - by then in a nearly empty. Will probably not come back, and so should not you unless you want to be abused by unmotivated staff.
This is one of those hole in the wall spots, where you just can't beat the authenticity. VERY good Ethiopian food. Highly, highly recommend.
Also! For those who don't know, you eat with your hands! Really fun experience!
A warm welcome by the host and was delightfully accommodated on a Thursday night with no reservations. The vibe was cozy and authentic. It was our first time trying Ethiopian food and I must say it was for sure an experience; one I would try again? I am not sure.
We had the beef Sambousa to start which was very good – I really enjoyed the spicy kick to it. It is similar to Samosa without the potato. For dinner, we had the Taste of Sheba Sampler with Awaze Tibs which was my favorite.
Overall, a pleasant experience and one that should try, at least once.
This place disappointed me in two ways and to those who read reviews take my review into major consideration because I’m Ethiopian and I do love me some Ethiopian food. So 1. The prices in their menu is normal considering it’s in NY. But traditionally all Ethiopian restaurants if u buy one meat cuisine your meal has two vegetarian sides includes just to balance it out. But this place didn’t respect that tradition 2. The food cooked was a disappointment and if I had access to a kitchen I would’ve made way better food. The food was dry and bland.
