RCN initially isn’t the best service. “you get what you pay for”, and at the time it was 44.99. My service price went up about 4x in the last 3 years. Now normally I wouldn’t mind, but when the price increases and the service is getting worse, it becomes a nuisance. I called to inquire about the increase in price about 3 weeks ago and the gentleman on the phone said someone would get back to me in 48 hours. No one called back. The representative that I spoke to when I called back stated no change in price could take place. I stated that’s fine I’ll cancel my service, which he stated that my service wouldn’t be cancelled until I returned the equipment. RCN does not do pick ups or mail in equipment. During covid 19 you’d think they’d want to be a little accommodating for the sake of safety and business. No not at all. If you’re reading this go to Verizon. Better pricing and better service. I’d give 0 stars if I could.

I made an appointment yesterday to install cable, internet and phone. I waited 5 hours and nobody showed up. I’m switching to Verizon!

RCN is dishonest. I cancelled the auto payment and it still charged my credit card. Meanwhile, they also charge fee without saying it clearly on the website and statements. Client representatives are rude and super irresponsible for solving problems, unwilling to communicate. Very disappointed after being customers for 2 years.

RCN nickles & dimes customers. Our general experience was a lot of dishonesty - heavily focused on upselling you things you don't need, reps leave out critical info, monthly prices randomly changed with no notice (need to be a hawk with the bill), ridiculous equipment fees randomly get added. Stay away from this company.

We asked at time of contract (and in several follow up calls) whether we could use our own modem, instead of paying equipment fee. Was told no, several times. This answer miraculously changed to yes, when we wanted to cancel.

We also explicitly asked about length of contract at sign-on price and was told 2 years. This was randomly changed at 1-year. When we called in, the contract length was miraculously supposed to be 2-years. Lots of "mistakes".

Clearly support/account managers have financial incentives to upsell and company flat out lies often.

Canceling is nearly impossible. Wait on phone forever, they conveniently “forget” to terminate and just keep billing, you are not allowed to have written confirmation of requested termination, every agent/supervisor tells you different termination requirements, they charge you to return the equipment.

Please avoid them! You have much more reliable options. We are having so many issues with them and nothing gets really resolved. This is 2020 in the largest city in the country. Their internet connection is very unreliable. It basically drops 2 to 3 times a day. Forget about working from home. We called it in, modems were switches, nothing improved. Then you might want to watch some Netflix: not with RCN. That service is so slow. Thirdly, they will promise you free months. Forget it! They will forget about and takes you months to get one month ‘free’ (still paying a zillion fees). Also, their TiVo on demand service is really poor. Hit or miss that an episode gets saved there. One week you can be lucky, one week you won’t.
They are really good in slowly increasing your bill btw. The $10/month extra you won’t notice as fast. Again, AVOID!
