Retro Fitness, Staten Island NY

I thought while paying for a premium membership I would be able to work out peacefully upstairs with others who would like to do the same. I thought wrong after having machines taken up by KIDS who were hanging out. And after over hearing their conversations about how they can’t wait to get their license this means that they are too young to even have a membership at the gym. And I’m glad that there is a desk upstairs that appears to be there for an employee, has never been used. And it’s impossible to go down stairs and workout when even more children are having social hour instead of working out.

Tried to cancel a subscription because I didn’t have money left and they tell me there gonna charge an additional amount to cancel after taking money out that I didn’t even have now my bank account is negative because there’s money hungry animals in the world

The worst gym ever I had.the front desk very mean people and they charged me 61$ for nothing my payment it was 45 $ a month and when I want to freeze my account one month they told me I can’t use the gym before the freeze 10 days Even though I paid for this 10 days and when I canceled my membership the guy was very mean and nasty I will never go there again

Thought I come here late afternoon.surprise! College kids and their friends here. How many of these kids are fully vaccinated? Yikes! No masks.no one sanitizing weight machines.

Chris was awesome he helped with all questions I needed answered awesome and clean gym great atmosphere

Chill gym environment with a lot of quality equipment that lets me get a good workout in.

The price for a membership is great as well.

Been going to this gym for a while pretty good for what you pay. Matt and Chris (staff) were helpful and knowledgeable. I would recommend this location

I was requesting a refund from their payment service providers ABC Financials because as the gym was close March, April, June, July 2020. I was charged for for more than I should have for the two memberships. I did post a negative review as I will now retract due to the update below.

Update as of 5: 41 pm 1/12/2021 - I received word the payment service provider ABC Financials will be cancelling my memberships without further charges, which is the correct thing to due unprecedented circumstances of 2020. I do hope 2021 is a better year financially for Retro Fitness as I had been a member for many years at this location and was very happy with the location and staff.and only until the last dispute did I encounter anything negative about this Retro Fitness or their payment service provider. But it has been resolved and I wish only success to Retro Fitness Charleston, Staten Island for years to come.

I have been a member of Retro Fitness for many years and had many different trainers. I met Louie my personal trainer I knew he can help me achieve my goal. He makes working out fun and inspires me to reach my goal.
I am very impressed by his passion to help his clients, his knowledge and his ability to connect with his clients. Its because of him I re-signed up for a personal training. Louie is very caring and attentive. He knows my limits. He encourages and motivates me to do better. He helped me develop my mind set in a positive way and I have changed to a person who thinks "I can do it"!

Facilities are clean, never too crowded, employees are friendly and has all the equipment I need

Only branch that has the elliptical with lateral movement 2 machines), although one was out of service. My favorite machine! Too bad could only get a B from Health Department on food service. But at least improved from last year's C rating. P. S.it is a violation to cover the score with a pile of magazines on the counter, as I observed on 9/28/20 at 5pm. Also, waste pails are overflowing with wipes, maybe need more pails and dispensers.

We belong to veterans Road and I just want to make a statement hoping that all workers that are at that gym are getting paid we did not cancel our membership we’re hoping you’re going to pay it forward to the members during this pandemic

My go to home gym. I joined in November 2019, friendly staff, very helpful. Very good atmosphere. Only reason for four stars is because some of the electronic equipment does not work and sometimes during peak hours the bathroom trash gets overstuffed with paper towels. But these are minor issues. There are plenty of trash bins and tredmills to choose from.

This gym is awesome and I enjoy working out here.

While the staff is great; the business end of this organization is HORRIBLE, it should be avoided based on that alone. I purchased a membership as a gift and tried to cancel after a year and they will not let you. Certified Letter needed or talk to manager, whom is almost never in. In the event you are able to take off from work to see him on his schedule (9am - 2pm) he takes long lunches and your unable to cancel your membership. Do yourself a favor and Join one of the other gyms in the area, Intoxx, Powerhouse, LA Fitness.

Same thing as many others. Impossible to cancel. Hunted down the manager close to 3 months ago and signed the cancellation paperwork. I'm still being charged! So now i have to go through the trouble if finding this guy again.

The staff and personel are all polite and helpful. The gym is kept clean and the machines are kept in good order.

After I canceled my daughter's membership a year later they kept charging my credit card. Had capital one block them and get our money back!

Great Gym that opens early on weekdays and weekends. They have enough iron and cardio equipment you need to get in a good workout. I made the switch from NYSC and couldn’t be happier.
