The worst gym! The staff is not helpful and the only way to cancel is to jump through hoops. Managers are never available. DO NOT JOIN.

The gym is good and clean but didn’t like management
Got stocked overseas for a year and I sent a friend to cancel my membership and I called as well to cancel it but they said you have to be here and come in person and now when I a back they said ah you could have freeze your account

Staff is super dope, massive workout out space and fairly priced. This gym is usually pretty empty as well.
Looking forward to getting MASSIVE

The only reason I keep coming back really is because it’s the only non-crossfit gym that is walkable. The weights are as disorganized as any gym I’ve ever seen. Getting through a free weight exercise is a pain because a good chunk of your workout is spent scouring the gym for weights.

Also, they’re far too strict on letting people in. I’ve been a paying customer for almost three years now and was turned away at the front desk because *their* Apple Pay wasn’t working. Why punish a customer because of a machine malfunction when I was trying to pay. They didn’t even try to work with me.

I will say this gym is fairly spacious, but that’s about it.

The gym has no air conditioning. Windows closed. Couldn’t work out for a week because I couldnt breathe.

Horrible management. Impossible to cancel and just give the runaround and lie blatantly to your face. Avoid or pay up for nicer friendlier place.

May 2022. I've been a retro fitness customer for a few years and used many locations including upstate NY, Long Island, Manhattan, and Florida. This location is in an industrial area next to the Lowe's store so some people may feel a bit uncomfortable walking from their car to the building after dark - no problem with that for me tho:). The gym is on the 3rd floor and you have a choice of stairs or elevator (hey, its a gym - why use an elevator?) Bikers - there used to be a bike rack outside but it's gone, however, they're cool with bringing your bike up with you (Ok, elevator come in handy here). The equipment is in fairly good shape, and there are plenty of machines in addition to a few separate workout rooms, but some of the machines are starting to wear down a bit (creaky and binding pulleys - cable not set right on one station), and I'm hoping that they will repair them soon. In addition, it would be great if they added a few more sets of 30 and 35 pound dumbbells as they are the most used and it sucks to wait a while for others to finish using those popular weight sets - it's a relatively cheap fix - not like they have to buy a machine.
The Men's locker room has a few broken lockers, but there's always an available one. The locker room overall is pretty clean.
Staff is really nice - no complaints there.

This place is very unprofessional. It is 5: 30 AM and still now employee to open up the gym for the members. No notification or anything though social media or email to update members of employees not opening up. I would not recommend this gym, it is outdated and dirty in the locker rooms.

So sorry don't want to sounds negative but God help the customers attending the gym. Management is quite racist in this location and will certainly express it. Extremely un-accomadting to its clients and certainly will look to do the least work possible and get you out their face no matter how severe your situation may be. I def recommend RETRO FITNESS THE GYM.but just not the park slope location.

Great place to work out the one in park slope is the best, one down fall is now sauna but other then that great and great staff very helpful, educated and friendly and theres a huge parking always parking!

The management has become horrible here. I've been trying to close my account due to the fact of the many restrictions with covid. They keep trying to bill me when my account was supposed to be frozen. They won't close my account because they want me to pay for something that I did not use. Did anyone notice how high the membership fees went up? If they had an incompetent employee who doesn't work there anymore who was supposed to freeze my account And didn't that has to say something.

This place is a complete scam. The manager keelin has already been accused of scamming many people in other locations. Please stay out of this gym. There is a reason why you see less people in the guy. SCAM!

This is a good quality gym. It’s the cheapest in the area but generally has everything you need. Machines, dumbbells, barbells, squat racks, benches, a place you can deadlift.

This place also has all the usual cardio machines plus a rope pulling machine (I don’t know it’s proper name) and a ladder climber.

Personal training is great (you get a free session when you join) and they don’t hassle you to sign up for a full program.

The quality of the gym is worth the cost. It’s not Equinox but it’s worth what you pay for it. Yes the fee structure is weird (annual in addition to monthly fees) but even with all the fees it’s still the best deal around. And the cancellation process seems set up to be a little difficult, but this is the same as 90% of all gyms. It’s part of the business model to be harder to cancel and have a slightly confusing fee structure.

Regarding COVID: many people don’t wear masks here but some do and, in any case, everybody is vaccinated (city requirement). You can go early in the morning or a bit later in the afternoon (around 3) to avoid crowds.

I liked this gym…the only thing that can be improved is getting access to the clubs WiFi (doesn’t work) …. No password given out on walls, also fixing the elevator in the building.

First during COVID was no respect of rules and she put this on retro fitness member from avenue Y.
The worst management ever I cancel my membership and i was still charge for few a months but the best was (Mariah Feliciano) or Mariah skye how ask me to come to sign a paper if I want to cancel my membership.
Came few times she was
Never there she was working from home maternity leave.
So now I got an impact on my credit history. Best communication ever and on top of this I got all the emails she sent and nothing make sense.

Worst gym, dirty, clientele entering building for other floors is a joke, making it impossible to cancel a gym membership being forced to come into a gym with a pandemic

Nice gym but there fees don’t make any sense told me I had to pay 65 now plus another yearly fee of 61 dollars and then 26 monthly I don’t know why it’s so much for a new member but the gym is close to me and that’s the only reason I go here

This is the worst gym in NYC. Even after cancelling the gym subscription, I am still being charged for the last 2 months. And when spoke to the manager she told I haven’t cancelled the subscription. The woman at front desk ensured me that subscription was cancelled 2 months back. I am still paying for the gym, even after moving to a different city. The worst customer service.
It took 5 mins to enroll and don’t know how long it will take to cancel the subscription.

Even after so many communications, all they have to say is “we do not have record of any communication with you”. Would never recommend this gym to anyone.

The single worst experience I have had with any business in NYC.

I am editing this post! After I wrote my initial review I started reading the other reviews here and realized that they are doing this to a lot of people! I am going to be reaching out to a class action lawyer friend of mine because if they have done this to 15 people at this one location i bet they have done it at the other locations as well.

SECOND UPDATE! After doing some research at consumer affairs it appears this gym is doing this kind of stuff all over the country they have even swindled people who supposedly won a "free lifetime membership". Game on retro fitness. I am going to enjoy this.

The customer service is terrible. I have been trying to close my account for a year.haven't been to the gym in more than 18 months and they continue to take money out of my account every month. A year of sending emails and making phone calls only to be told that I must go into the location in person to close my account. In the middle of the pandemic, retro fitness would not close my account unless I came to the club in person because "that's what is in the policy agreement".

I am sorry, I am not going to risk my life or the lives of the immuno-comprimised people in my family to close my stupid gym membership.

I have been given the run around every time I have called or talked to anyone. Every person has been combative and unhelpful.

I almost never write reviews but the customer service here is truly so awful.

Dude trying to hand out flyers for his gym has a NASTY attitude, automatically turns disrespectful if you deny him permission
