Ridgewood Reservoir reviews
13A nice paved path around the outside of the reservoir and a dirt path through middle. Good for biking or relaxing to escape the city even though surrounded by highways and cemeteries. There is a small parking spot across the street that fills up on the weekends with ball games and barbecues. Highland Park during the week is very quiet spot to enjoy being outdoors and away from traffic. An oasis hidden the bustling city blocked by trees and cemeteries. Not too many amenities or services short of going down out to the urban setting of Jamaica avenue down the hill. Bring some food and beverages and have a picnic. I enjoy biking out and getting some quiet time enjoying a shady rest
Glad to see something like this in Queens, in NYC. But it definitely doesn’t seem to be safe enough to be walking/running alone esp during early morning or late evenings. Always go in a pair or group since it’s pretty secluded and quiet. But worth the visit as we don’t have spaces like this in the city.
I love coming here on beautiful days for a walk or bike ride around the reservoir. It's generally always pretty quiet and a nice place to get away from the bustle of the city right in my neighborhood!
This is a good running/walking loop to do, approximately 1.5miles around. It is paved surface, so it is much easier on joints than regular concrete. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that during the week one is VERY isolated, especially during the fall and winter months-there is practically no one there. Stick to the weekends to do this loop, after sunrise and before sundown.
What an amazing little oasis. There’s a paved loop that’s great for rollerskating or biking, and there’s rocky paths as well. Super beautiful views and you might even see som white swans on the water
What was once the water supply to surrounding area is now a nature preserve; heavily wooded ; walking paths thru out ; serene peaceful quiet
The city of NY NEEDS TO TAKE BETTER CARE OF THE RESERVOIR
and we the people need to DEPOSIT TRASH IN THE TRASH CANS!
Nice park, trees have grown beautifully, mini forest around reservoir. Move over Cent. Prosp. Highland is coming up.
When in need of a nature walk, the reservoir provides the perfect escape! Bike, walk, roller blade around the I believe 3 mile walkway provided. Different animals the forest houses. I found a turtle on one of my walk, another time saw a rabbit and the tumultuous Different species of birds with their spectacular colors and singing. Across from the reservoir is a large picnic area with humongous trees (lots of shade) and enjoy.
This reservoir is a peaceful oasis in the Ridgewood area of Queens. I do love coming here, but I’ve been disappointed for the last couple months because the city has not opened the special horticultural area which is full of flowers, birds, and great views of the basin. Not sure why the city has kept it closed but it’s definitely sad.
I grew up at the reservoir my father was borough engineer my family lived there till the late 70’s
Kind of dirty needs cleaning and sanitization. Folks always walking around with vicious dogs with out leach.
Beautiful Queens Flora. In fact that was the name of a poetry concert I walked into today! Pretty amazing of what you can find in the middle of this wonderful preserve nestled on the Brooklyn / Queens border. The poems were recited by Libby Mislan. Music by Phoebe Balazon. Dance by Asma Feyijinmi and Alec Lichtenberg. Opening poetry by Gabriel Miranda. It was an awesome experience and one of the many reasons you should take a walk into this magical Park! The Reservoir Park preserve is just over a mile around, walk, run, or bike the distance, and enjoy the amazing views
