Riverside Valley Community Garden reviews
7 Started volunteering here after reading some books about gardens. While I've been volunteering with riverside park conservancy for over 30 years this is the only garden in riverside park that grows food. I come here when the gate is unlocked but also some other mornings to pick up trash outside on 12th avenue nearby.
These are the books:
Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teaching of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer
The Botany of Desire: A Plant’s Eye View of the World by Michael Pollan
Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life by Barbara Kingsolver
Was weeding today in what is called the 'back 40'. This garden is huge! It goes north all the way to the overlook which is halfway between 139th and 140th.
Love to run on the track and the park is always clean. The only problem I got is they need to get rid of the The swerd smell that comes from the ground or pipes.
Lovely place ro go for romantic walks during day or night. After 9pm the bigs take over the park tho
Great space to come and relax. It's nice that citizens volunteer their time and money to creat a relaxing atmosphere for the community. We need more places like this in the city.
"JENNY'S GARDEN" is a special place. Jenny and her fellow gardeners reclaimed 20 blocks of formerly abandoned, bombed-out park area lining the Amtrak tracks, and created a gorgeous pagoda that delivers tons of food to shelters every year, and teaches local kids about agriculture.
I wish this place would tear down the ugly chain link fencing and the barbed wire. The plants really don't need that kind of protection. The bad old days are over. Get with the times - it's an eyesore and makes it look so unwelcoming.
