Wine Bar Ruffian reviews
16Basic wine bar, very limited wine choices for a wine bar. Food ok but nothing that we could recognize from the website pictures.
One of my favourite wine bars in the world. Always a very interesting and curated wine list (Lebanese, Georgian wines, etc) and amazing by the glass selection. Heavy focus on Vegetarian menu items as well. I’m not a vegetarian but I always enjoy the way they combine flavours. Dishes are smaller portions so you get to try more items
Service was great - ambiance amazing and the food was good too! We were seated promptly on time, one of the best wine bars in the nyc!
Moody bartender, the way she’s handling guests is not a hospitality wise, menu on the website is old menu and its not the same as when you get inside, tight space. 0 star
Also they don’t accept apple pay and if you have only that way of payment they will look down on you like? Come on people its nearly 2023 for god sake keep up with the technology.
Amazing wine but service was a weee bit pretentious and the food menu is limited, high priced, and portions are small.
Interesting wine selections - many niche natural wines. Not my taste but my friend loved it.
First time visiting Ruffian yesterday and a fantastic experience. We visited as part of a “wine tour” my friends and I do, and Emily and the team were excellent in terms of looking after us, providing great wine recommendations and making the experience amazing.
We will be visiting Ruffian again, and so should you
Cozy wine bar with a pretty extensive list to choose from, was a bit on the pricy side so I’d come during their “bottle service” hours (happy hour)
Can't speak to the food, but the service and wine were both lovely. As expected, a bit pricey!
Phenomenal food, service and staff. Maddy was incredibly knowledgeable and kind. From beginning to end, the love that goes into this place is inspirational! Beyond deserving of its Michelin Star.
Best meal I’ve had in a while. Dish titles and wine descriptions were all on point and really amusing. Our service was amazing and I strongly recommend letting them guide you through this small menu and wine pairings. We were glad to not do the tasting menu as with 3 of us we ended up trying almost the entire menu providing more than enough food for less cost.
Visited Ruffian today. I have to say I never posted my experience but here I have to!
Few things:
1. The waitress have no experience with wine, she broke the cork open the wine on the side and then just spilled the wine. She even didn’t show us the bottle before the opening.
2. The dishes - ridiculous- small plates (when I say small I mean super small, I looked at my wife and we both start laughing. It was embarrassing especially when you are paying for each avg $20.3. I allergic to mushrooms and we mentioned this at the beginning - however we received the dish (lucky me my wife tried first) we asked if there are mushrooms inside - the answer was “just a little”.
4. Service - no service experience.
Bottom line, $166 bill which consist of wine on the amount of $110 and 2 dishes. Bad experience, for sure will not be back. In other words cat in a bag - we followed the high rank, and had a terrible experience.
Such truly exceptional service from Amelie (the beverage director, forgive me if I've misspelled your beautiful name!) and the team here. Delightful small plates and an exceptional wine list. Worthy destination, well-lauded for so many reasons!
I've lived in New York 6 years and discovered this place way too late! It is truly one of the best in terms of food and wine. I'm a big fan of small plates in general. When there are so many good places to eat out these days, I cannot appreciate enough a slightly more unique and delicate cuisine that is still enjoyable in a casual vibe. It's surprising how good the food is coming out of the small kitchen. Every dish is so complex, flavorful, aromatic, and sometimes oriental inspired? Of course though you're coming here for their natural wines which are definitely phenomenal. And there is also no substitute for impeccable yet relaxed service. These guys are very chill but very knowledgeable and helpful. Just know that normally their indoor seating is pretty limited (just one bar), but right now during the pandemic they've got great outdoors seats you can reserve that are just perfect.
Loved this place pre shutdown, and their outdoor seating experience is amazing. Their vegetarian/vegan fare is so incredibly tasty, if you're not excited at the prospect of corn watermelon soup or english pea dumplings on their tasting menu you absolutely should be. The wine as always is excellent, and now you can enjoy these amazing and interesting glasses while people watching on st mark's in a relatively quieter patio than the other places on the street. Mask wearing and social distancing between tables is on point here.
Pictures is corn watermelon soup, fatayer, and chickpea salad.
