Rule of Thirds reviews
19The food is mediocre by Japanese standards and it’s really not worth the price. The miso soup is sub par and not very authentic while the beef don has no onions and is dry. The staff is also not accommodative and fairly rude.
I was apprehensive about coming here due to the price, but every single dish hit. Each bite was divine across the small plates, main sharing plates, and dessert. I was also worried it would be pricy with small portions, but 2 small plates and 2 shared mains were enough for the 2 of us.
It’s hard to justify going to restaurants over and over again in NY because there’s so many but i will ALWAYS come back here. Brunch here is phenomenal. The potatoes, the karage, so so good
So damn good! My friend and I shared everything and we were FULL by the end of the meal. The staff is very nice and the kitchen is quick! We went for brunch to try the soufflé pancake and it was a HIT! So was the karage and the smashed potato. My green was fresh and the teapot was so adorable! 10 out of 10 and extra points for the double sided chopsticks and the reasonably priced food
We WILL be coming back again!
They do ask if you have dietary restrictions to adjust the meal for you but we had no restrictions
The ambiance here is impeccable. Whether it’s for a date or to catch up with friends, the environment is strong in vibes and the food is good and reliable. Was a bit confused about how many servers came to our table and they seemed to be in a rush to clear things (cleared our plates before I even finished chewing my last bite). But overall highly recommend and think this is a New York must go.
We had a great experience at Rule of Thirds. We were very well taken care of, the atmosphere and the service were exemplary. The food was great, and some of the dishes were outstanding, such as the maitake and scallop skewers. Recommend for a cute date night out.
Attended a wedding on Christmas Eve at their events space - the food and atmosphere were wonderful and I absolutely plan to return to eat in the main restaurant
One of the best restaurants I’ve been to in NYC! Everything is so flavorful. The chicken karage and gem salad were unexpected hits. Lots of great flavors and textures of crunch, sweet, fresh. The desserts were also delicious with the rice cooker cheesecake being more of a cake than actual cheesecake and so many flavors! Highly recommend.
Absolutely love the vibe of this place. Stunning interior, the food never misses, and the drinks are on point (don't sleep on the melonade). Great spot to bring literally anyone.
Server was rude, slammed our drinks down and barely acknowledged our order. Food came out slow and was bland, under-seasoned. The fact that they can mess up miso soup is astonishing. Just another store run by hipsters so that’s what you pay for. Overhyped by TikTok and Instagram reels, get the taco truck nearby, better use of your money.
So impressed with this spot! I got the soufflé pancake which was so fluffy and melt in your mouth. Perfect amount of sweetness. Also got their smashed potato with poached egg and iced matcha latte. The ambiance is lovely and staff is friendly too
Gorgeous restaurant and atmosphere! Loved their Japanese whiskey drinks, highly recommend the mystery train - part of their special seasonal menu. We got several appetizers and three large plates, thought the appetizers (especially the brussel sprouts) were delicious. The main plates (pork, and one of the fish plates) were a little underwhelming, the pork more so than the rest.
This place is dope (but pricey). Coming from a Japan trip, it hit the mark in terms of food quality we had just experienced. Chicken meatball is best I’ve ever had. Tuna was fresh and dressed deliciously. The outdoor-ish booth set up was convenient for dining with our small dog. Give this place a try for a nice dinner out or special occasion
Came on a Saturday night for my birthday and it was so bougie and nice inside, although we had to sit outdoors in the garden cause we had no reservations.we had the mazeman noodles which was flavorful and not too hot, the sashimi shaped like a rose, the hamachi collar fish which was a delicious fish, the tonkatsu which was beautifully plated and all tasted fresh and healthy.would come back for the indoors.the space is a vibe and so modern and captures japanese wabisabi style very well
Superb atmosphere. Interesting and yummy cocktails. And every single dish was not only beautiful but very tasty. You have to get the pancake with the soft serve, of course!
Came for their famous hottocake (Japanese soufflé pancake), stayed for their gorgeous interior, friendly staff, and aesthetic brunch options. We also tried the Japanese breakfast, whose highlight was grilled salmon with unagi sauce. It felt like I was eating in an art museum; the space was full of natural wood, stone, and plants. Please come and visit to experience this yourself!
Rule of Thirds stands out in every way. Stellar service, cool ambiance and incredible food/beverages. A consistently great experience that I would recommend time and time again.
Definitely lived up to the hype. What a cozy space for brunch. The interior is a lovely coffeeshop vibe, with great outdoor seating with both open seating and private huts as well.
Service was casual but professional as well as timely. Great brunch place on a date or with friends.
Definitely would recommend the green tea, hottokeki (souffle pancake), chicken katsu sandwich. The traditional Japanese breakfast was delicate, delicious and did not feel too heavy.
Bangs. Impress that hinge date with a reservation or wear your carhartt with ur boys and double date. You provably frequent carmellos (idiot) so you want to show you have taste? Go here. Or dont im not a cop.
