Scottsville Ice Arena reviews
16Not the best rink in the area but not the worst either. My least favorite part is how cramped it feels coming in and out of the building. The bleachers aren’t great. It’s not the coldest rink in the area but not super warm either. Their learn to skate program seems popular though. And the refs they have for youth hockey games always seem attentive and fair.
This place is always has nice hard ice. Its really clean compared to the other rinks in our area, and the prices are great too.
We were in town for a hockey tournament. This arena is nice. They have a bar with extra seating upstairs overlooking the rink. The food was amazing. The bathrooms were clean. I loved that they have a "blanket bin". Use one and return it. My only wish was that they had the heaters turned on.
I cannot wait to see what this place will become as the new owners continue to invest in it. As it stands right now, and only from the perspective of a father of three kids who like to skate but are not part of any organization, this rink is perfect. There's a place to rent skates, a place to change into them and a place to skate on them. Not sure what else someone would need. Is it flashy like Bill Gray's? Nope, is it just as fun? Yup. We skated for a couple of hours. Long enough to enjoy our selves.
Metal seats very cold to sit on. Ice was in good condition, and the concession stand prices were very reasonable.
Place is awful! The parking lot is incredibly icy and it hasn't snowed in 4 days. So many kids were falling in the parking lot. Potholes all over too.
I wish it got better in the inside but it does not. It's like this place was built in the 60's and never touched again. The bleachers are a health hazard. Rusty pipes, multiple perforations in the ceiling, just a sad place to be.
Absolutely absurd. Scottsville should be ashamed.
Updating after owner's terrible response:
I didn't know your little sob story was an excuse to operate a health hazard. I'm going to assume you haven't been on site to see all the people falling in your "parking lot. " Maybe spend less time responding to people here and more actually taking care of your business.
If you are going to post rules for the ice, at least enforce them. There are kids trying to learn to skate and parents out on the ice with small children, yet the regular teens are allowed to mess with the cones and the new skater aides. **update** I appreciate the response, I dont usually leave reviews or complain, but, trying to teach my child to skate and get her excited about skating is difficult when there are older kids allowed to slide through the center or speed through others, all while the “staff” is paying more attention the the girls and throwing snow. All that being said, I do enjoy coming to SIA, it is a good place to skate, we will continue to use.
It was nice that when we went there for public skate it was not busy. However, the skates we rented were a problem. There was buckling of the boots, zero support so my friend lasted one lap as a new skater on the ice the first time. I am a former college ice hockey player, so I know how to lace skates that is just to clarify it was not a factor of ‘not knowing’ how to properly lace an ice skate. Rink was nice. Unfortunately you have to come here with your own as their skates are the oldest I’ve ever seen, in terrible condition, making it unsafe.
The ice itself was good for the figure skaters. Unfortunately for viewers the glass had severe condensation making watching a show difficult from the stands. They do have a raised area which the staff opened up for us. See the attached pics from there.
Employees really doing a great work here. I know that some people that come here dont have manners, but the place is great.
Affordable and nice. Snack bar closed and there was not sign saying it would close b4 5pm.
A nice, older venue. It has a large area for spectators but is dark inside. There is plenty of parking, a pro shop, and a snack bar.
Kind of run down but works. Parking lot is better. Never seen the heat on.ever. Bundle up.
Probably the coldest rink you'll ever go to, but they do have blankets available for the public (if you're into that kind of thing). Good ice. Tiny lobby. If there's a hockey game starting or ending, and a public skate going the other way. It can be impossible to move. Big, pretty clean locker rooms though. Staff is friendly. Hot chocolate is like sludge.
Average ice arena for the area, maybe a little better. Concessions, proshop, open skate times and hockey.
We hosted a 13th birthday party for my daughter here. The staff was welcoming and the party room upstairs was perfect for cake and presents.
