Kristen is the absolute best, I moved from nyc in 2018 and still fly back to have her cut my hair!

JENNA IS INCREDIBLE! She truly made my hair look incredible in ways I didn’t know possible. Jenna is so sweet, funny, and cultivates an incredible time.

I have been going to Jenna for 4 years now and she is amazing! Very great at listening to the design I have in mind and working with me to achieve it. She mastered a difficult asymmetrical cut that I had photos of and I was amazed at how perfectly she pulled it off. Also, Jenna is just a very chill person and lovely to be around… which I feel makes all the difference when you’re sitting in the chair for an hour or so. I don’t feel pressured to make small talk but her presence is so calming, grounding and chill. As a queer-identifying woman, I also appreciate having a stylist who is also queer-identifying, not just because I love supporting another queer artist, but also because we can speak the same language in terms of look, style and identity. I love that this salon feels like a very LGBTQIA+ celebrating space and would highly recommend a visit! ️‍ Oh, and the head massage she gives me when washing my hair is heaven. I honestly can’t wait for my next cut just for the head massage! ️

I was originally blonde and wanted to something new and Jenna at Seagull absolutely KILLED IT. I knew I wanted some sort of blue but she gave my hair life and dimension better than I ever thought it could be. I’m usually nervous about people coloring my hair because it’s so fine and thin, so small mistakes really show up, but she was completely professional and made my hair come out looking incredible. I 100% recommend Jenna for hair coloring and cuts, especially if you’re wanting to do something fun and aren’t totally sure where you want to go with it.

I have been getting my hair cut here with Jenna for a while here. She is the most accommodating stylist I’ve ever had.
She does an amazing job while also adding positivity to the room. So nice to find a beautiful salon with such brilliant staff.
Highly recommended!

I really hate to do this but I got the worst color job of my life here. I was given to Jenna, who overstated her familiarity with curly, textured hair to me at the start and then clarified halfway through the service that her experience was limited. This became pretty evident when I left with visibly uneven color that left my hair extremely damaged. I came in with a mix of my natural dark color and a couple of red streaks and asked if that would be a problem - my goal was a silvery blonde but I was willing to settle for a light grey or a blonde that wasn’t too brassy, most of the unevenness, including the very dark patches, and the greenish color in the pictures is not over the areas that were previously red. My hair is at least three distinctly different colors, the bulk of which looks like what happens to blue hair after repeated chlorine exposure. Parts of my roots and the underside of my hair didn’t even wind up with dye on them at all.

Everyone here was very nice and they did refund me for my color but my hair is really damaged and I truly resent what I feel was a misrepresentation of my stylist’s ability to work with my hair type that led to this.

I've been going to Seagull Salon (Queer owned and operated) since about 2018, and I have exclusively worked with Jenna since that time! We started working together while she was an assistant and I have been thrilled to be a client of hers as she has continued her journey to a full fledged Stylist.

I honestly cannot sing her praises enough. Jenna is one of the most genuine, thoughtful stylists; willing to help you push your boundaries and offer guidance on what will work best for needs and expectations. She provides a safe space for the Queer, LGBTQIA+, and BIPOC communities and knows her way around a multitude of hair types and textures.

Luckily I work in a creative field and we have been able to experiment and play with many different looks! We have been through quite the hair journey together. I first came to Jenna with medium length hair with the intention of growing it long. She guided me through that growth process and helped me stay looking and feeling my best through the many awkward stages of hair growth. By the time I went to Paris in September 2019, I had achieved my desired length and she suggested that we do something fun for my trip. When I tell you that she balayaged my hair for the GODS, it is not an understatement. I walked out of Seagull looking like I had spent two weeks in the South of France under the Mediterranean sun. Very front row worthy for Paris Fashion Week!

Jenna has taken me from long and balayaged to buzzed and blonde, and EVERYTHING in between. I said "Fashion Mullet! " and she said, "Say no more! " I truly love my time spent at Seagull with Jenna, it's an experience filled with laughter, and a sense of safety that I'm in good hands. The whole salon radiates an attitude of love, openness, and care for their varied clientele. Seagull and Jenna both have my HIGHEST praise and recommendation. Looking for a Queer and BIPOC affirming salon who has a 30+ year history in NYC? Check out Seagull and ask for Jenna ;)

Visiting the Seagull for a haircut, my expectations were high. I’m glad to report they were also exceeded. Katie not only truly listened to my hair wants, she gave me simple tips and tricks for how to style my hair both naturally and blown out. Like things I, a non hairstylist, can do at home. I left the salon feeling like a beautiful news anchor. I will 100% be back to the Seagull to see Katie

I looooved my experience with Katie at Seagull! I asked to keep as much length as possible and she did just that and added such nice layering to my hair to enhance volume. She also did some extra work on my curls and they came out so defined and pretty. I found my new spot!

I am so happy with my hair after getting full head of highlights and a haircut. Jenna is amazing- she corrected my brassy blonde and gave me the cutest bob to help along growing out a pixie cut- when I left I felt like a star. My hair is shiny and bouncy. She gave me so much TLC. Thank you!

Coming here was probably my best experience at a salon. Everyone is super friendly and inviting and Jenna takes very good care of you. She’s very knowledgeable about products and techniques and shares awesome tips for you to use at home so you get the most out of your color. It’s very obvious she cares about the work she’s doing and helping you look your best. 10/10 would trust my hair with her anytime!
