Sen Sakana reviews
16 The food here is excellent. I had the eggplant starter and the cheeseburger. I finished it up with the teramisu. The Cosmopolitan was delicious.
The service was superb, although there was a drop too much hovering.
The atmosphere was typical New York restaurant. Dark and heavy bass beat. But the music wasn't too loud, so it was bearable.
All in all it was lovely and the price was quite reasonable. We were a party of 5, and the bill came to just over $500, including tip and taxes.
Great restaurant and great service! Modern Japanese restaurant with delicious food and drinks! Definitely will be back! Highly recommend! My server and the whole service was also amazing! I had the great time
One of my favorite NYC restaurants, tasty quality food, fun drinks, great service. Lighting is a bit dim (I like seeing what I'm eating usually), but that aside, this place is a winner over and over.
Work dinner with FedEx. It was busy even on Thursday night. Not the best drink but the food was pretty good. Loved the taco the most. Sushi was good enough. Overall good service.
Sen Sakana is a must go when in nyc! From their sushi to their steaks, everything is excellent. Their sushi would rival any other sushi house in the city with creative and delicious rolls. Their bone-in steak is also excellent. Filled with flavor and cooked as you like!
Food was great, but the lighting was low and we sat underneath a cold AC vent. After eating, we felt the staff rushed us to leave. The prices seemed steep but the sushi did taste fresher than I’ve had before - I’m used to paying $15-20 for a specialty roll while the prices here were $25 or more for one and $15 for classic maki, compared to the $7-9 I’m used to paying. Plus the classic had six rolls not eight, like I’m used to.
Kosher food, delicious, special to the palate.
We ordered several starters, all of them were different specials.
The drinks at the bar are delicious.
And the service is excellent.
We will absolutely be back.
Highly recommend this great restaurant, definitely coming back.
Love the atmosphere!
Very unique flavors, my first time trying Nikkei cuisine and really enjoyed it! The Andes Yama sushi roll with imitation crab and beet purée was unique and excellent. Service was a tad bit rushed but not bad
Clearly a professional take on how a sushi restaurant with a twist should be. However, indeed overpriced.
We had dinner there yesterday. The service was great and the food (meatdumplings, edamame, different sushi) was very good. To my surprise, the green tea was free, as was the bottled water. A visit there is highly recommended
Definitely not the place to come to for Japanese food. We ordered fried tofu, tuna tiradito and a maki - none of them tasted good. The service made the experience worse, all food came almost at the same time, and the table was just not big enough to fit all food… overall disappointing experience.
Fantastic sushi destroyed by horrible service. Never have a dined so formidably where the food was served by staff that was so incompetent but also rude and unhelpful. Everything is impossible everything is difficult. We are supposed to be honored be be guests here.
Would not recommend this restruant to anyone who likes good service. The hostess mistreated us. He spoke very rudly to my husband, and our friends. We were seated at the bar after we requested to be seated at a table.the staff also spoke about us in Spanish, my husband responded in Spanish and they were in shock.mouth opened with no words to come out. We drove over an hour, and they gave our table to someone else. Shame we didn't get to try the food.
My visit to Sen Sakana was marked by uncomfortable interactions with the staff and the early closing of the establishment, which, unfortunately, leads me to give it a 2l1-star rating.
As soon as we arrived, we were met with unwelcoming looks from the staff that made us uncomfortable. However, things only grew worse when one of the staff members began questioning us in a strange and inappropriate manner.
These uncomfortable experiences with the staff made it impossible to enjoy our time.
Additionally, the restaurant closed early, which left us feeling rushed and disappointed with the overall experience. Due to this early closing, we did not have the opportunity to try the food or interact with the service.
In conclusion, the uncomfortable interactions with the staff, coupled with the early closure of the establishment, led to a disappointing experience at Sen Sakana. While I cannot comment on the quality of the food or service due to the circumstances, the overall experience warrants a 1-star rating.
Michael Martucci, the manager, received us so well. He took care of us picky eaters with lots of patience and was extremely professional. The service was legit amazing. Such a pleasant experience. Their cocktails are the best!
Update: These guys have greatly improved following my last review. Happy to see this restaurant bounced back and then some!

Prior to Covid Sen Sakana was one of my my go to client entertainment spots. Being a block away from my office the fantastic cocktails and highquality food made it perfect.
I visited a few weeks back on a Monday and experienced something much different then prior times. I sat at the bar and order the omakase. Opposed to the usual bartender engagement and light banter I was used to, I had the privilege of listening to the bartender and one of the servers talk about how many bud lights they had shotgunned that weekend. Furthermore, the fish was not of high quality. To finish things off I noticed on the check that they are now charging a service charge and giving the opportunity to tip. Previously they were a no tip establishment and this approach feels like poor business practice.
