DON’T WORK WITH THEM TILL YOU’VE READ THIS. I made the mistake of rushing into a job and writing a $10,000 deposit based on a budget proposal we came up with (see image below). That money was supposed to cover drafting and engineering costs for a public art project on the new Tappan Zee Bridge. After I provided a scale model, they submitted a schematic illustration that was supposed to be CAD drafted, engineered and stamped (see image below). The New Bridge Project engineers were stunned and I was embarrassed (see their response below). Serett finally got it together to submit stamped and approved concrete footings but for a sculpture they had yet to engineer. In the end the steel plates they specified for anchoring were deemed insufficient and the concrete footings were barely large enough (see image below). They also never gave me an updated proposal after several requests. It was basically an open bid and they were taking advantage of me. I had to cut my loses and find a different fabricator but at the very least I hoped they would finish the drafting and engineering. They did not. I only got the approved footings. According to my new fabricator, along with the engineer and an architect, the work they did amounted to about $2000. Serett invoiced me for $14,480 even though the budget proposal states $10,000 for drafting/engineering (see image below). I have never gotten a written response from Josh about this discrepancy. He basically pocketed $8,000. I have emails confirming all of this.
