Shema Sushi, Rochester NY

Easily one of the best sushi places in rochester. The tempura cheesecake is awesome and the soju selection is great. Love shema so much!

The best sushi I've had anywhere in Rochester. I've never had fish so tender and fresh before. It really is an experience worth having.

I was thinking sushi for dinner and this place was walking distance from hotel. Walked by and nobody in the place (6 pm). That's usually a red flag to me. Went in anyway. The smell of fish was almost overwhelming. Red flag number 2. Decided to order something safe: shrimp tempura roll. She said 5-6 minutes. Came out in about 2. Awesome! Brought the roll back to hotel. It was ok. Nothing special, but not bad either. Maybe if those two flags were not there, might give it 4 stars.

Walked over after a long day in the plant. The tea and miso were perfect after a cold walk in the snow. Rolls were creative and tasty. A little pricy, but that was on me since I ordered everything separately and went for the fancy rolls.

Shema was the first sushi I ever had growing up, when they used to be located in Webster. Now in Rochester, best sushi in the city! All fresh and delicious and always great service.

This is a great place to eat sushi in Rochester. I've ordered takeout here multiple times to have at home or the office. So far, I've had the best experience with the staff and the food.

This is one of the best sushi I've ever eaten! The quality of the fish and rice was far beyond extraordinary. All of my friends were amazed by the quality of the fish and the fact that they had been properly seasoned. The spicy tuna roll was my ultimate favorite, it reminded me of the ones I had when I was a child that I still remember vividly. The staff members were so friendly and made us immediately feel as if we were a part of their family.

Best sushi in Rochester! The Salmon belly is amazing. The Uni! The Uni! Best I’ve had. Worth every penny. Thank you Shema I will be back!

Always great and my girlfriend agrees that it is just as good in quality, freshness and design as hiro sushi back in Arizona. This spot will always be my go to for sushi in Rochester NY!

Sashimis and sushis here are fresh but a little expensive than most average Japanese restaurants. They don't have dine in at lunch time. (Only take out). You can dine in at dinner.

Terrible service. We waited for more than 40 minutes after ordered. When we asked the staff, she suddenly yelled that other table had waited for an hour already. Then she pointed a pen at us, and demanded us to LEAVE NOW.

Very bad attitude. This is my second time there, and I recommended many friends to go. But I will never be there again. Very DISAPPOINTED!

Just got the sushi sashimi lunch box special — and it was first rate! The miso soup wasn’t too salty, the tempura perfectly crisp. The sushi and sashimi were fresh and delicious, along with the Cali roll, salad, seaweed tasting and the accoutrements. Cleaned the plate and this Hit the (sushi) Spot 100%.

Will make this a weekly treat!

Extremely unpleasant experience! The owner shouted to us and said “You leave now! ”. Unbelievable experience! It’s only because one of our friends asked for a quicker service after waiting for 40 mins and getting nothing. Her attitude is extremely awful.

Cannot recommend Shema enough. The food is INCREDIBLE and always such a comfort. Staff is kind and welcoming. If you haven’t eaten here yet, you should asap! We usually get the shrimp crunch rolls and spicy Shoyu ramen - amazing! Their new sweet salmon roll is delicious as well.

I came for first time and LOVE it! The kindest staff here: waitress Cloe & owners are awesome, clean tables and most importantly, food are GREAT! What a place to be! One of my favorite sushi place! Recommending 100%!

Shema is my favorite sushi spot in Rochester! They have exquisite fish and a sweet staff. The sushi boat is perfect for two and always has new flavors! Love it here.
