Cute sushi place. Was packed- looks like a favorite for locals. I am new to sushi and definitely no expert, but the food was good and fresh and the waitress was very, very polite and accommodating. The red things in the picture are baby octopi!

Cute little sushi place! I went with some friends and we all enjoyed our meal. We came in a little after opening seeing that it's a small place and would get packed by locals. There was only one waiter to serve the whole place, and she was very accommodating.

The sushi is very traditional, not the over-the-top American style sushi you would get at other places. The fish and squid we had tasted fresher compared to other places. Overall a cute spot if you want simple, fresh, sushi!

Food was great; it's very much a traditional Japanese restaurant. They don't have any elaborate rolls but the sushi was high quality. Staff was friendly and attentive. I would recommend getting a reservation ahead of time.

The food was very good, it's a pretty small place with a fairly calm atmosphere depending on when you go. The warm sake was delightful, but the pork katsu was the absolute best part of the meal for sure. ️️

Five years ago I had my first truly great bowl of ramen here. Today I had my first truly great sushi. Without a doubt in my mind, the kind folks here do it right.

I never was a sushi guy. Now I am. Try the fatty tuna - you won't regret it.

Biggest complaint: the restaurant did not serve us any sushi.

We came in on a Saturday evening with a reservation of 8 pm. The moment we sat down, we were told by the waiter that the restaurant was running out of fish. We were very surprised and shocked that the restaurant did not have enough ingredients to serve any sushi with the majority of its menu is about sushi.

I am sure this could easily be better experience. But our visit indeed did not meet our expectation.

All around a great dining experience, VERY relaxed. My fiance and I had a really nice date night and delicious food. I got the sushi she got the ramen we both left full and satisfied.

Just under 40 for the 2 of us. We had tea but bo other drinks.

Traditional Japanese sushi. No crazy rolls, just the basics done well. All the fish tasted great.

The place is dirty and crowded, The service is super slow and the food is not that amazing. The sushi comes with tons of wasabi between the fish and the rice. Best to avoid.

[Update] the restaurant is open and I recommend making a reservation if you are planning to visit during the busy hour. You can certainly walk in but sometimes you have to wait a while to get seated. Their menu got a lot smaller but the food still tastes great!

[UPDATE] - THE RESTAURANT IS CLOSED FOR LUNCH. OPENS ONLY FOR DINNER 5-9PM!
I highly recommend! I can say that this restaurant provides the best Japanese food you can get around here! From appetizer to main course, and sushi, everything tastes good. I visit here almost once to twice every month and I always get satisfied after each meal. The restaurant is small but even when you have to wait, it's definitely worth it. You can try the famous and common Japanese dishes in this restaurant. Get an appetizer, or order your choice of sushi, and have an order of main course dish then it will fill you up! When you order sushi, specify how many you want for each fish.

This is my favorite sushi place. There are plenty of tasty dishes and appetizers for non fish lovers too. The atmosphere is bright and airy, though the space is small and intimate. The number of Japanese students who eat here give an indication of how authentic the food is. The fish is always fresh and delicious. The house saki, served hot, is the best in the area and affordable. One note, the actual sushi rolls are not the most exciting in town, but all the other dishes more than offset that. I suggest getting a few appetizers to share and some separate sushi to try. Excellent for an adventurous date or fun with a small group.

We recently ate there (party of five) and had a Japanese visitor with us. We were hoping for an authentic Japanese dinner experience and were not disappointed! The sushi was fresh and presented beautifully, and the ramen and Katsu curry were delicious and just like what we ate in Tokyo. The salad and miso soup were better than some of the other popular places we've been to as well. The place is small, but warm and you can see the sushi chef/owner in action. Shiki will definitley be on our regular rotation of restaurants!

High quality fish, a cozy atmosphere and kind staff all come together to make eating here a very pleasant experience. Will definitely be coming back for more sushi and sashimi in the future!

The food was carefully and quickly prepared. The service was excellent. The food and drinks were spot on. I'm not sure why there have been mediocre reviews? Yes, I've been to Japan and eaten in some of the finest Tokyo, Osaka, Akita restaurant's.and in places where I was the first ever American. We should be happy to have a low key place like this in our community.

I worked in Japan for several years so I have a very high standard for japanese food. 90% of japanese place in rochester is inedible (some even gives u food poisoning), while 10% is edible, but not authentic. I tried the legendary shiki today and it turned out to be a disappointment. The fish is fresh enough, but options are about the same like every other places (salmon, tuna, yellowtail, etc), their curry is good, but I can make it at home. The ramen blew my mind (in a bad way), I was expecting a secret recipe, but chashu turned out to be completely wrong, they used pork loin instead of pork belly, and its not marinated/grilled at all, if they serve this in japan.the restaurant gonna be out of business in a week. Since they have a small menu, I expect each food on the menu to be high standard, but nah. For the freshness of the fish and tonkatsu don (curry rice), ill give 2 stars instead of 1
