Siena House, Bronx NY

I was in this shelter 27 years ago when I was 18 & pregnant with my first baby & my experience there were positive. I was there for 6 and a half months. I got approved for housing and once I was approved I started looking for a place. They were extremely helpful and even after I moved into my own apartment I still received outside services because I was referred to those services by Siena House. Everyone has their story and experience this is mine.

The shelter is what u make it. I enjoyed my time here. The room I had was small but I had my own bathroom and shower/tub. I was especially grateful for that. I was pregnant and had very bad morning sickness so I definitely needed that. Every one else does have to share the bathrooms / showers. They did not provide 3 meals a day they only provided brunch and dinner. The food wasnt the best but the weekend cook was great actually. Would've have liked to get 3 meals but they did have other stuff in the cafeteria to munch on until it was time to eat. They are a lil strict about not bringing food in your room, however they do provide u with a fridge. It's not what u do it's how you do it frfr just clean up after yourself if u do eat in your room. The case worker and social worker really helped me out a lot. I am grateful for the time I spent here. It wasn't bad. They will help you but only if you want to help yourself.
