Somers National Golf Club

Two friends and I (in our mid-sixties) played this course on October 8th. We expected that because it had rained most of the prior day some holes would be “cart-path only”. STRIKE 1. When we were ready to tee off on Hole 1 the starter “Moustache John” told us ALL of the holes were “cart path only”.
A business savvy, customer-friendly owner/manager would have offered a discount to the full price of $82/ per person – but not this course. STRIKE 2. Beyond the incredibly poor drainage on the course on every hole (it was like playing in a swamp) the conditions of the greens were abysmal. Every green was covered with pine needles, leaves and goose poop and some had fungus. The bunkers were unplayable mini landslides. STRIKE 3. The icing on the cake. At about hole 12 we were approached by the Starter /Ranger (“Moustache John”) who reprimanded each of us individually for playing too slowly. He was belligerent, condescending, and unprofessional. Under different circumstances would have been sent on his way with a swift kick in the a_ _. He hovered over us on almost every hole thereafter. If you’re wondering, we finished 18 holes in 4 ½ hours (even waiting for the group ahead on hole 18), notwithstanding the fact that we had to plod through swamp fairways that were like walking on quicksand and walking every single hole. I regret not running into “Moustache John” on my way out of the facilities, we would have had such a good talk. Bottom Line: The owners of this golf course show zero interest in maintaining a basically decent facility and zero regard for customers. It should either be sold to someone who actually understands the golf business or converted to residential building lots. Even under optimal conditions the course has a strange unfriendly layout. “Moustache John” should find new employment where he never comes into contact with the public. The owners have enough problems with the course’s condition and employees like him add to the incredibly poor experience. $82 bucks –REALLY? Never, never, never again. Do yourself a big favor and either pay more money for a quality course or travel further to find a decent course, but find someplace else to play golf – you’ll really regret coming here.

If you like:
1. Getting yelled at by the ranger if your front nine went 2 hours 30 (as a foursome)
2. No food or coffee available in the morning
3. Grounds crew that goes through you while you are golfing
4. Getting criticized for stopping for hot dogs and beer at the restaurant after the ninth hole

This is the course for you. Absolutely atrocious job by the ownership today.

I am not playing this course again. The ranger is an absolute jerk as you’ve seen by the other reviews.

(And yea it is also a hard course. Tight fairways.)

Beautiful golf course for a fair and reasonable price. The staff is very friendly especially the bag room staff.

Great experience difficult track but rewarding as well. Lust fairways, tricky greens and friendly informed staff! If you’re looking for an enjoyable round of golf, along with scenic country views in 4 1/2 hours or less you choose the right golf course!

Great experience for my first time golfing. Staff was very nice and courses are in great shape. All in all a fantastic time.

Avoid this garbage course. Horrible layout, terrible conditions, rude starters and an overall awful experience. They should just build more townhouses as this is a waste of land!

The only reason they got 2 stars is the greens were in decent shape. The staff and rangers have little to no tact when dealing with customers. I arrived in a great mood having never played there before. And departed feeling pretty annoyed by the whole experience. And that does even consider my score.

The course was unplayable. Tee boxes were sand.absolutely had my money stolen from me by this Course. Starter started a fight with me about my time Confirmed 936, continued to rush us and tell me it was 924, Cannot understand how the Superintendent let golfer go out. Shut it down Offer a refund for the group.
