Somtum Der reviews
15Cool and chill vibes of restaurant. Pad thai is a bit spicy compared to other Thai restaurants in NY, tho it tastes still good. FYI, it is a little bit pricey in terms of the presentation of dish and interior.
Fantastic papaya salad. Nice service.
Updated: hands down - best Thai place in the US I've been.
My god, the papaya salads they have are incredible! And if you ask for medium spicy, it’s no joke! The spice builds gradually and very flavorfully- I get it this way even though it is still too spicy for me because I really wouldnt want to miss out on it
Average thai in the East Village. Good deals for lunch: main dish + beverage $12.
We got 2 pad thai, one with shrimps and the other one vegetarian. Spicy and tasty
Ok prices, good taste, smaller than average portions. Tried one of the noodle dishes, cant remember which but once of the broad noodle ones, maybe the pad see ew.
Overall liked the taste, texture of the noodles and the ingredients, though nothing exceptional. Could be just me but portion seemed a bit small for American standards.
Really great authentic Thai food and a nice ambience, everything is great but I would recommend the larb
Easily the BEST Thai restaurant in all of NYC. I’ve been twice in one week and I was blown away by the quality and taste of the dishes here. The biggest differentiating factor was that the food is here is far less oily than most other Thai restaurants I’ve been to. The pad Thai and pad see ew were my favorites- perfectly seasoned and the spice was on point.
Service was super fast and efficient and the ambience inside made it feel like a true authentic Thai experience.
I saw many good reviews so I decided to try but not as good as I expected. Food were pretty salty and another thing that bothered me was the reminder to pay tips on the bill they brought to me, well even they did it nicely with a smiley face on the bill (photo attached) I didnt think it was a good idea to do so. As a customer, we should pay tip as part of the US culture but it's also depend on how good the service is, The minimum gratuity they suggested is 18% which is absolutely fine as long as they show good services but still, pls don't put a note on the bill to make customers pay for tips, what if you provided bad services? I felt like I had to pay no matter how your services had been.
Ambience, food and service all spot on! Highly recommend. Their medium spicy is really spicy so be careful.
Even though they were booked out online I called to get a reservation for 3 on Sunday evening which was really nice and convenient:) We had papaya salad, pork skewers, larb ped, pad thai, and fried rice with crispy fish. Everything was super flavorful! The panna cotta dessert was also really tasty.
The food was ok. It used to be better. Sticky rice was too dry. Undercooked. The beef was overcooked. The place was too busy. People sitting so close to each other.
Unique Thai dishes. Been here a couple times and we never had to wait long for a table despite it being so crowded each time. The food is delicious and definitely spicy so keep that in mind!
Really unique take on Thai food. The food was delicious with medium size portions. Be warned - this place plays it fast and loose with the spice. We ordered it medium and my mouth was on fire by the end of the meal.
Came here for lunch and had their lunch special with the fried chicken and papaya salad, great flavours and the salad was as good as any I have ever had. All other meals were just as tasty, we will be back!
I LOVE spicy food. This restaurant allows you to test your might against real Thai spice. It was an amazing experience. I had been to other Thai restaurants before throughout the five boroughs, and they had all disappointed me when it came to their flavor and spice level. This restaurant is the first to meet the standards I expected from the famed Thai spices. I well DEFINITELY be returning. Not only is the spice level up to standards, their food tastes utterly mouth-wateringly delicious. You want authentic Thai food? This is the restaurant you want to be at. Don't let the simple floor layout fool you. Their food will have you coming back for more.
