Always changing and always awesome. No two trips are alike and this makes it so fun to go often. Sometimes items are only there a weekend other times they might be there two weeks. The layout of the space makes it easy to wander at your own pace and linger on some floors as long as you want. I also appreciate that the building is fully accessible to those in wheelchairs. You do need to know you’ll have to check your backpack at coat check but it’s quick and easy. Love coming Sothebys and the staff is always nice in my experience.

This Establishment was formally more hands on, and department accessable to those who would like to get appraisal, and submit for auction.
I am dubious of the, "Phone and shoot for show",
Method.
Some things need to be seen by eye, in person.

Sotherby knowingly tried to sell a stolen item, after an expert that they themselves hired, told them it was stolen. This is just what is known publicly. Imagine the shady and illegal stuff they do, which isn't made public.

Worst customer service experience of any business of any type I have ever dealt with. Took over a year to get my item to auction with excuse after excuse. NO communication from the Sotheby's staff. I was always the one that had to reach out to them and find out what was going on. Even after the item sold, I had to seek out final payment after over a month. AND, the lady I dealt with primarily told me the item sold for 3K less than it actually did. So when I started digging I found out the real story. Asked to speak with managers several times, never got a call. Finally got payment but still never received formal documentation of the sale as requested. Call Cristie's or another similar service but DO NOT expect much from Sotheby's. Very disappointing.

I tried to bid through my mobile 3 minutes before ending an auction and all by chance it asked me to re-enter my credentials (it was the first time didn't ask in previous attempts before approaching the closing of a time auction. When I managed to log in, the auction of the lot had expired and the system wrote "Hoops something went wrong we apologize for the inconvenience! " Never has happened to other serious auction houses Christies Bonhams etc

Update
Sotheby’s follow up on the issue complaint. They sent me the timeframe of login attempts auction progress etc.but it still does not change the fact that I didn’t manage to bid

The magnificent auction house was open. Three floors of South Asian art. All modern. It's an auction house. Therefore you can see all of this beautiful stuff for free. And the wait staff was wonderful. I have a broken toe so the lovely lady offered me a wheelchair.

We attended a private event to look at the wars from the regatta in 1854 and 18 or 1858 between Harvard and Yale which was contested on lake winnipesaukee, in New Hampshire and I don't even know who won. But as a consequence we got to wander around and found actually that you can just walk in and wander around. However unlike a museum things aren't quite as segregated and thus you can wander and see on one floor Andy Warhol and another floor paintings from the American West landscapes. It's a place you should visit they even have a little snack bar where you can get something to eat and it's just a nice afternoon kind of thing all morning kind of thing to do on a slow day. Sign up for there lists and all the sudden you'll be inundated with examples of watches that started about $7,500 these are wrist watches and top out at least so far at about 133,000 dollars. Lots of fun

Right now there's some of the best artwork if you like contemporary art in all of New York. This has to be sale for this may include some of the best collections from some of the biggest collectors globally. In particular I would notice the masterpieces from Phillip Guston. There's an abstract piece and two figurative ones that are all knockouts. If you like more conservative work there are some beautiful impressionist paintings including a Cezanne and a couple of Monets. In short I highly recommend it. However please note that after the May auctions are over it'll be a while before they have another Blockbuster sale so you might want to check ahead.

Temporary exhibitions of arts from upcoming Spanish artists auctions, including a dozen works from Picasso on the 2nd and 3rd floor. The auction room is located at 7th floor. Memorable in-person experience because of the professional services and high quality products from the Sotheby's.

Yeah don’t support this place, they’re nothing but a deception. The ppl I dealt with were nothing but snakes in suits. I met with them twice about digital art, once before NFTs came about and they dangled a job in front of me only to really just steal any info I had and then go off. The job was not a real thing, just a trick to get info from me. The second time was a year ago and they did the same thing, just tried to use me for information and then never got back with me after I gave it to them, they even gave me their number to make it look I was really hooked in with them. Quite crafty I must say.
