First and foremost, the fact that this ferry service is free is incredible. It's not often that you come across a transit option that not only offers convenience but also an opportunity to marvel at the beauty of the surroundings without costing a dime. Boarding the ferry at the Whitehall Terminal was incredibly smooth and efficient, with helpful staff members guiding passengers through the process.

As the ferry pulls away from the terminal, the real magic begins. The panoramic views of Lower Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island are absolutely breathtaking. It's a photographer's dream come true! The spacious outdoor observation decks and comfortable seating areas allow for the perfect vantage point to capture memorable photos or simply soak in the stunning vistas.

The ferry ride across the harbor is smooth and relaxing, making it ideal for both tourists and locals alike. Whether you're commuting to Staten Island or simply taking the ride for the views, the journey is always enjoyable. Onboard amenities include clean restrooms, snack bar options, and ample seating, ensuring a comfortable and pleasant experience throughout.

Arriving at Staten Island, passengers have the option to explore the area or return on the next ferry without any additional cost. This allows for a flexible itinerary and the chance to discover charming Staten Island sites such as the Staten Island Museum or the picturesque St. George neighborhood.

Overall, the Manhattan to Staten Island Free Ferry offers a fantastic opportunity to journey across the waters while admiring New York City's iconic landmarks. With its affordability, convenience, and unparalleled views, this ferry ride is truly a must-do when visiting the city. Staten Island Ferry

Simple Ferry. Cost? Free!

You can ride this all day and night long but you must move from boat to boat. You are not allowed to stay on the boat. This keeps bums from catching a free ride/sleep. Good transportation from NY to NJ.

FYI, these boats were used in "The Dark Knight Movie".

Highly Recommended

Great destination if you’re visiting or need some alone time. It has views of Manhattan, New Jersey, Brooklyn and the Statue Of Liberty. It is completely free and departs roughly every 20 minutes.

Step by step to ride this ferry for free.

1. Get past “ticket guys in blue jackets”
2. Walk up escalators and wait to board (great time to use the public restrooms)
3. When boarding stick to the right side (Statue of Liberty side)
4. Then you must get off the boat after the ride is finished
5. Then simply loop back around and get right back in line to board to come back from where you came.

NOTE: You will be stopped and talked too by guys in blue official jackets who will try to sell you tickets. DO NOT BUY ANY. What they are trying to sell you on is a cruise that takes you closer to the statue of liberty. But the free Staten Island Ferry will take you past it anyways. So ignore them like the locals, split up your big groups if needed. And just know they’ll tell you it takes 2 hours and they are simply lying to you.

A total show because since it is free there are a lot of people. You can see the Statue of Liberty and the entire city skyline perfectly, unless you want to get off at the Statue of Liberty I wouldn't pay for an excursion boat.

It is amazing and free, so you can come and go the times you want, and with the perfect timing, you guet the complete shot of the wtc building that's visible entirely for just a few seconds.

Honestly. FREE.don't let yourself be redirected to another ferry. P. S.and one leaves every 30 minutes.and don't stay seated, the ferry has to be left after docking!

Really glad this exists, but the signage inside is lacking so it can be really difficult to navigate in a hurry.

Free ride to the Statue of Liberty. On the way to Staten Island you drive past it closer. Absolute recommendation!

Sublime views, fresh air, a chance to reflect on the genius of Spalding Gray (RIP), and it’s free. I N Y.

Excellent free experience. It takes 20 minutes to get to the other side and you see the buildings of Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty and the docks. It can be very cold depending on the time and time of year.

It's free for Long Island. The crossing itself is nice, especially with the sunset. The waiting room before boarding contains very dirty toilets and a few food shops. The whole thing is a bit gloomy. There are many homeless people or people with extroverted behavior (alcohol, smoking, etc.) near and in the area. Boarding is sporty because people pile up and run to get the best seats

One of the better free activities in New York. You can get great views of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline.
