Horrible and rude staff. Unfortunate because this place looks beautiful but the employees at the front are extremely disrespectful and rude. Horrible vibes and completely turned me off of ever considering buying a membership here.

Honest review? Terrible gym. USED to be OK when their hours were from 6am - 11pm and when they had not removed half of their overall equipment in their lower branch downstairs. The downstairs equipment at least gave people some flexibility they needed when most of the machines upstairs were occupied. In addition, many of the machines they used to have before their displacement were unique among gym goers. Unfortunately, now, you will have to spend more time waiting to use a machine when there were initially more options, along with having to deal with the displeasure of navigating huge, unnecessary crowds across the top branches due to taking away these machines from their customers. This is a terrible discourtesy to people who spend their hard earned money to come to this place and workout. For the price someone has to pay, they should at least expect a greater variety of machines for use. Lastly, the hours of operations are HORRENDOUS. They used to be open until 11pm, and then changed their open hour times to only 10pm on weekdays, and 9: 00-9: 30 on weekends! Terrible! What about the line of evening customers who depend on coming later for a good workout? Furthermore, they seem to have given top priority to seniors who want to play ping pong (who probably pay less) and are careless about who they bump into and hit during the game, over serious customers who pay considerably and come there to work out, hence why they probably took away their machines downstairs! Horrible.

Sauna is always extremely dirty. 0 stars. Gym is over priced. Worst YMCA ever. North shore YMCA is nicer. This YMCA location doesn't deserve any of your hard earned money
. I complain to the staff and they yes you to death and never do anything to fix the problems at stake. Which Is why I will write reviews like this when ever I get a chance

Have been a member for 10+ years. Honestly I am disappointed with this facility. It USED TO BE clean and functional. They removed half of the equipment from the "teen center" downstairs. There are literally no machines, just some cardio treadmills and ellipticals and a few free weights. Like what even is that? For the amount of money membership costs, half the gym should NOT BE EMPTY.

Another major issue is with the saunas and locker rooms - they don't enforce the no cell phone policy, they don't care if teenagers come into the sauna with sneakers and head phones etc. It's ridic. Not to mention the head-to-toe naked Chinese and Russian women who choose to do yoga UNCLOTHED next to innocent people like me in the sauna - GROSSSSSS, and beyond unhygienic.

Less than impressed with this place, I can't wait to cancel my membership.

I had a terrible thing last night. I played at YMCA. When I finished, I found that my cash ($350) and mobile phone (iphoneX) were stolen. I was very sure that I locked the cabinet before I left the it. But my stuffs and money and locks were all stolen. I am very suspicious of the security of YMCA, and they promise to check the surveillance video and will reply to me today, but I have not received any news from them until now... Please be careful to use their locker room... Very unsafe! ! !
I will post this terrible incident to all my social software. I want to let all my friends who know or don’t know me know that their security is very low and the processing speed of the case is very slow! ! ! They must be responsible for the loss of members' items, otherwise I can't believe who will continue to use their locker room!

Initially I signed up just to swim there but after couple of months of swimming in that purely chemical liquid (never seen so much chlorine in the pool) and ignored complaints, I decided to close my family account. Kids showed interest in gym, so we're keeping memberships for now. Gym isn't bad which is what 2 stars are for. Pool and ignorance by management gets 0 rating.

Getting pretty shabby, but could made great with better administrative involvement, listening to membership observations and suggestions.

Place is nice and clean but the stuff needs Improvement. Lack of communication, I signed my son up for a swimming class it was Wednesday but when we got there there was no class and they never called us and told us that the class was moved to Friday because there weren’t enough student.

Always had a good experience here. The YMCA really reaches out to the community to help others.

This facility seems to offer alot, but it is actually very difficult to get into an open activity. Only half the staff are knowledgeable about services. Summer camp is okay for the cost. Kids parties are subpar - event staff are disorganized and uncoordinated.

Highly disappointed with the early childhood program at this institution. The staff in the front are not welcoming. Parking is a huge issue. There is a lack of communication between teachers and parents. The director should take more initiative to ensure families feel welcomed here. In conclusion, there are several better and more diverse options for UPK to choose from in Staten Island.

The staff members are either extremely rude or extremely polite - no in between. There are some staff that I absolutely love but there are a few that are so rude. The ones that are rude are always seen gossiping and when you interrupt them for a split second to ask a question, they get very rude.

Also, I once forgot my pair of nice (new) Nikes in the locker room late at night (I prefer driving in my slides, so I usually just switch whenever I head out), and I came back the next morning, realizing that I forgot them there, and they weren't there.
I asked if they had a lost and found (which places like gyms usually should have) and they just gave me such and difficult time that I just gave up.

The biggest issue though, is the torn up/broken machines.it's been almost 3 months and they still haven't replaced/fixed this certain machine.
And they only have like 3 ab machines that i know of.some new machinery would be nice

For the high price you pay, it should be a 24 hours facility for 7 days. I used to pay 95$ per month and now i am glad to just pay 20$ per month in Planet Fitness and guess what, open 24 hours for 5 days per week which match my work schedule

Why I ever left this YMCA for LA Fitness when it first opened I'll never know. There is no comparison. I used to think that the YMCA had parking issues. Not at all compared to LA in Eltingville and the YMCA is bigger and has more classes for what I'm interested in. So glad I came back to the YMCA South Shore. I am interested in Yoga and Pilates. The classes that I could attend in the time frame I was interested in was doubled at the YMCA. There were only 5-6 at LA and 11 at the YMCA. The machines are good, the track is great and the Zumba classes are tons of fun.

As a personal trainer, I've been to a lot of gyms and always look for a place that I feel comfortable and welcome. This is NOT this place. The WORST thing about this place is the staff. They are so rude and unfriendly. I am a very kind and attentive person as that is part of my job but they just ALWAYS gave me a hard time. The staff at the front desk is so unhelpful and rude as they really always act miserable and so unhappy to be there. If you don't want to be there and you're making a hard time for everyone asking basic questions, then quit! I couldn't be unhappier with this place. WORST gym on the island, always crowded and not too much is available if you're a power lifter. Don't waste your time and money.

The staff are lovely and understanding, and their patience is admirable. I have been going to their gym for a few years now, and they have a college student discount, which is great. It's a very non-judgmental gym, very friendly to the young and old alike, and I look forward to renewing my membership. My only two cons are the slight lack of privacy in the men's locker room and that not everyone who exercises there wipes down their equipment.
