Suffolk County Community College - Eastern Campus reviews
2 I understand that it was my fault at first. But the college pulled something very sneaky on me.
I was placed on academic probation in the fall semester of 2019 because I rarely attended classes (long personal story, but not the point). The woman in charge of lifting the probation was nice at first, but seemed agitated and twitched way too much which made me nervous.
I went through the meeting in January of 2020 and explained the personal side of my story and took full responsibility. She then handed me a paper and told me to sign it and return it to them. My father was there with me in case of help and I asked to see him before returning the paper. He thumbed through it with me and it was a form for a loan, even though one portion of the paper was a line explaining that it was what would get my probation lifted. The college tried to get me to apply for a loan so I could get back into the school. That was the breaking point and I have never gone back since 2020 and plan to never go back to college.
Aside from the ten plus professors I had that I thoroughly enjoyed, the campus life is not at all welcoming. There are many good people studying to make it in life and they were cool. But some of the academic counselors were rude, condescending and the woman who tried to get me to sign the loan was not pleasant either. Clubs are BS, snobby and if you aren't a high achieving student in their honor societies or any of their peer mentors, you are pretty much a zero in the college's eyes. The fact that SCCC promotes itself as a welcoming environment is a lie. Looking back, I realize how little there was that the school offered. You go there for class and go home. As someone who wanted to socialize more, the school was not good at all in promoting any form of entertainment for the students and when it did happen, no one knew about it. Guess you have to be a part of the committee who makes up the events to know about it.
Thanks SCCC. Along with the personal issues I was facing, you were my eye opener in realizing that college was not for me.
