This place is one of the best meals in the city. Go and pay for the highest quality omakase at the omakase bar and you will be thoroughly impressed.

Best omakase in park slope! So nice to get quality fish in the neighborhood. Such a good steal for the quality. The fatty tuna, salmon, and mackerel are favorites!

After spending the day together in Park Slope, my mom and I were hungry but didn't have a specific place in mind for dinner. I did a quick search and settled on Sushi Katsuei, which had a decent rating and was close by. Upon entering the establishment, I asked the hostess for a table for 2. She asked if we had reservations, and I told her we did not. She picked up a menu and insisted that we look at it. I responded by saying that we didn't need to look at the menu before being seated. She continued insisting and added, "I am not sure if we serve what you are looking for. We serve sushi here. We don't have things like fried rice. " It took me a minute to realize what she was actually saying. Essentially, since my mom and I are Black, she couldn't fathom that we would knowingly choose a Japanese restaurant that served Omakase, sushi, and sashimi. She ignorantly thought we would step into a Japanese restaurant wanting Asian food like fried rice. Long story short, do not eat here if you are Black or consider yourself an ally.

Everything was fresh, but the cost gave me higher expectations. The appetizer options were uninspired and they are weirdly stingy with the soy sauce. The glass of wine was half a glass of wine. I left still hungry.

Amazing food, very reasonably price for the quality they provide, loved it and had to come back a few days later. Lovely staff as well!

We were refused service on a calm weeknight because we had ordered too few things. I had just come off a flight and wanted a simple miso soup and a single roll. But this order fell below their spending minimum so they refused us service. They informed us about the spending minimum ($20/person) after we had sat down and ordered already. This is unethical and no way to run a business imho.

Super authentic sushi restaurant. Really love everything about this place. Always get the Omakase. Not the cheapest but you get what you pay for.

Fantastic meal! Perhaps they've been reading these reviews and course corrected because we had excellent service, the waitstaff was very attentive and helpful, and they are also now serving tap water. The sushi and sashimi omakase included several heavenly pieces of otoro and the price was amazing for the quality.

Amazing appetizers and sushi… black miso cod to rival nobu. Will definitely be back to try their omakase! I appreciate that they offer high quality sushi at various price points, with standard sushi entrees and more high end omakases - quality sushi at different price points.

I had a very bad experience with this restaurant. I called two weeks ago to reserve a table to bring a childhood friend from France to try the omakase. On the phone, I asked if I could bring a stroller with my newborn if we come for the first service of the night. They immediately said yes. So here we go, on the night of the reservation walking with a baby for 30 mn excited to go to this restaurant. When we arrived while the reservation said « 3 + a stroller », the host refused to sit us, alleging that we could not keep the stroller inside - he said that he told me that on the phone, which is untrue-, we needed to leave it outside in front of the door (where it could easily get stolen), and suggested that we put our newborn in a high chair (? !). He was very rude to me and my husband the whole time and we eventually left. The food is not bad (we came before), but with a service like this, we won’t come back.

Great local sushi spot! Been here a few times and it has only been great. I think the prices are on point for the tastiness of the fish. The fried tofu appetizer really nice as well.

Seriously good sushi, which is not easy to find. This one's a winner.

HOWEVER (and I've been eating here for 7 years and they know me) : on my latest visit I found a hair in my food. They apologized. They replaced the dish. AND THAT'S IT. Folks, you have to make SOME kind of gesture, no matter how small. Inexcusable.

My friends and I got the sushi omakase and the food was excellent! The only thing is the tables are pretty tight from each other, I would def come back regardless!

Food: 5 stars
Service: 4 stars
Ambience: 3 stars

Not a big sushi place, but this is good! Took a chance with the spicy scallop rolls and wow- I will be back for them. The spicy tuna was also a hit.

Food quality and prep was a 4 star. My issue with rating a 4 was that I got the “market price” omakase not asking the price. Thinking “hey … I am sitting next to yelling children in high chairs how much could it be? ” … well … try $200! Excuse me? Do you have a Michelin Star?

Honestly there is way better sushi coupled with a non-chuckee-cheese kids environment at this price point. Get on the F train and go for it … 13 minutes away for several amazing experiences.

Absolutely love Sushi Katsuei Brooklyn! Their omakase is my favorite meal in all of NYC! Every piece is prepared so originally (fish paired with plum paste and a shiso leaf, for example!) - It’s the only meal where I literally smile every bite! Also, we love the staff! The server Q and sushi chef John and our favorites, but everyone is so wonderful, hardworking and kind! Cannot recommend Sushi Katsuei more!
