Sushi Nakazawa reviews
14Omakese, $180 a person with some add-ons. Service pretty solid, conversation and banter with the chefs at the sushi counter is best; the lounge counter is ok, or a seat in the back. I didn't see Nakazawa here this time, he might e been away opening the California location coming up. The waygu ($20/pc) is a definite good add, and the special uni ($50/serving) is also worth it for uni lovers. The caviar was raved over by the neighbor but I didn't order it this time.top off with a great tea, wine and sake assortment. Reservations up to 14 days in advance.
Me and my partner spent Christmas holiday in NYC and had omakase here. This place is such a fun part of our vacation.
It is hiding in a small neighborhood and no restaurant sign outside. We walked back and forth along the street like scavengers hunting trying to guess which is door the right one. Two regular customers stopped us and pointed to a small black door.
Entered the door is a small waiting room surrounded by a sectional sofa. A sharply dressed host in dark suits standing behind a desk confirmed our reservation in a cool, stern expression. Next to him a warm young lady quickly came forward and collected our winter jackets and hats and put away to a cloakroom.
After the dinner I asked my partner - don’t you think the waiting room is fun, one is cold and one is warm?
She was like - don’t remember except tasting sushi.
I returned after a spectacularly amazing experience a few years ago. Beverage service was as excellent as I remembered, but sushi counter service was very poor. Our chef barely acknowledged us and didn’t even bother to tell us what some pieces were. The pace at which the food came out felt extremely rushed, too. With the wide variety of omakase options available in the city, I would recommend trying another place.
Wow, a real and amazing sushi restaurant. All the sushi dishes were prepared on the spot by a Japanese chef, according to the Japanese tradition and were very tasty. A special experience! I have no idea about the prices because I was invited to the place. Recommended for all sushi lovers.
The wines are excessively expensive, with two glasses recommended by the staff costing $70 and offering nothing exceptional or particularly good. It's not a deal for me. The menu is rather predictable. Despite having visited around 15 Michelin-starred restaurants with my family, this is the only one among them that I know I will never return to.
Love the place.been here twice.whats annoying is they dont let u take pics or video - my first time it was ok but when i went 2nd time, the guy there was saying something it bothered the chef which was weird cus the chef is very nice.but aside from that.this one of my faves.
Sat at the counter for omakase with a drunk diner who kept buying shots for the staff who in turn kept downing them and gave him 99% of their attention throughout the whole service. You can probably guess how the dinner went with intoxicated staff who spent whole night buttering up to one dude.
Review is for their lunch omakase only. Pricing is a little better for lunch compared to dinner. We first came here for lunch a couple years ago and returned last month and I have to say that the quality of the fish has definitely waned. Service, menu thoughtfulness and ambiance were still good but the fish just didn't quite hit the spot this time.
Sushi Nakazawa, awarded one Michelin star, is renowned for its exceptional omakase experience.
The skilled chefs present a carefully curated selection of sushi, highlighting the finest flavors and textures. Each dish is a testament to the restaurant's dedication to quality and culinary artistry, making it a standout destination for sushi enthusiasts seeking a refined dining experience.
Great tips! Making a reservation, communicating allergies, and exploring different courses with sake or wine pairings can enhance your experience at Sushi Nakazawa. Checking the website for updated operating hours and omakase course details is a smart move. Enjoy your dining experience!
Another one of my top 3 for this year, pricing is okay but definitely go in with an empty stomach
Overall experience was less than satisfactory for what you are paying. The host (man in glasses) as I’ve read on previous reviews is unprofessional, rude, pretentious and not remotely accommodating. Needless to say, won’t recommend on this basis. FWIW the head chef is talented.
Consider requesting chef Shawn, this chef makes better sushi than what I’ve had in Japan, 10/10
This place was on my list for a while. I did the two week book right away method and got a Friday night spot at the counter after some Switches by “notify dinner” on resy. It felt semi-casual upscale. Enjoyed the food and the experience.
The five star experience was Shawn the Fujian Sushi chef who was super knowledgeable about each fish and fun to talk to. His energy made for a nice experience eating and enjoying while learning.
The food is reasonably priced. Drinks is where they get you.and the 3% credit card charge, fyi.
Service was fine. Missed two points - a food preference and a special occasion note.
Atmosphere was good, but could have been better for $900 dinner.
All in all, very good experience but missed a few key points to get 5 stars.
An average experience in the dining room. I would not recommend the dining room at all. It’s like the after though to the omakase counters unfortunately.
We were served 20 courses in 1: 10 mins. It was rushed, not paced and I make better desserts at home.
We had an obnoxious table of 8 people in this room and they were way too loud. Large parties are not workable at this restaurant, it really disturbs everyone else. I wish it was more amazing.
Not the kind of birthday celebration I had in mind for my hubby.
