Taqueria Y Fonda La Mexicana reviews
19First experience here was in 2003.it was 5 stars back then, I'll give 4 now. They used to give you lots of chips with 3 different salsas, now they give a handful of chips and 1 salsa. Still one of the best Mexican restaurants in Manhattan. The burritos and quesadillas are my all time favorites.

Delicious, unpretentious, filling, and such kind service Honestly one of the best Mexican places I’ve had in NYC. Cannot believe I only discovered this on the day of graduation
Birria tacos: The consommé was super flavorful and the cheese inside the taco made me so happy
Enchiladas with Mole: The mole sauce was decadent, and you could really taste the chocolate undertones. A good balance of savory yet slightly sweet notes came through
Very nice place! Went with my sister during a trip to the city and the tacos were amazing! Friendly staff as well
Absolute best mexican food on the upper west side. All day $8 drinks. Enchiladas, massive giant burritos. Everything on the menu is so tasty and flavorful.
Amazing food and very nice staff. Dinning area is bare bones but still a great spot to stop for quick meal.
Really like this place. Try the traditional plates. Chorizo w/ eggs was good and not greezy. Great cheese. Clean bathroom.
It's a hole in the wall Mexican restaurant. Food is simple and delicious. Great spot for students or families looking to stretch a dollar. I love to eat and I am very satisfied by two tacos, stuffed if I eat three.
They have the standard Mexican beers and sodas. Overall, I really like this place!
I recently visited Taqueria Y Fonda La Mexicana in Manhattan and was blown away by their amazing food. The restaurant has a warm and inviting atmosphere, making it the perfect place to enjoy a delicious Mexican meal. But what really stood out to me was their Cactus Taco. It was a work of art - the combination of tender cactus, tangy salsa, and fresh cilantro on a warm corn tortilla was simply divine. Every bite was bursting with flavor, and I found myself savoring each one. This is definitely a must-try dish for anyone who loves Mexican food. I highly recommend Taqueria Y Fonda La Mexicana for anyone looking for authentic and delicious Mexican cuisine in Manhattan.
Hands down my favourite place for Mexican food in NY. Tastes like home. I live in London and make sure to come here every time I’m in the city. Lovely people, too, make it the easiest place to recommend
Classic NY hidden gem, small basic layout with absolutely delicious food and great personalized service.
One of the worst Mexican food I had in New York City. The fried black beans were just out of the can, heated and added some spices -that’s it.
The tacos tasted very dry and simply just tasteless /boring. Also not the most cleanest place! I would not recommend, you can find at every corner in nyc delicious food!
Meh food is average, guacamole is very expensive ie 10usd for a very very small plate. Service was good and the lady was quite efficient, drinks (aguas) were good and not too sweet. Wont return. 5 tacos and tiny guac and 2 waters came out for 60$… place is not very pretty
Overall this was a great experience! The chips and salsa were complimentary and tasty! The staff was friendly! The Birria tacos were delicious! The variety of individual tacos we ordered tasted great, and they definitely were not stingy on any meat filling. The only downside was the chicken enchilada plate - it lacked flavour (the enchiladas) and the sauce was a little sour. But overall, we would definitely go back!
The worst out the worst honestly… how can they serve trash like that? Tripa (tripe) was deep fried like if they were fries when originally they have to be cooked in the PLANCHA and ALSO THEY WERE burned! Nasty nasty, carnitas meat was dry and nasty and the limes… omg not even cheap taco trucks gives you a tiny tiny tiny piece of lime. One star because I can’t leave 0 stars and super expensive
Lo Peor de lo peor!
No lo recomiendo y no regresaría! Antes este lugar era bueno pero ahora es una Basura
I ordered 2 tacos and a margarita. Basic taco spot I needed to use alot of sauce (tacos were dry). Drink was ok. Also, I noticed they had a B rating on the way out: (
Love this place! It’s a local go to spot. They have great birria and tamales. Such tasty tacos! They’re one of the yummiest and most affordable neighborhood spots.
If you're in the Morningside Heights area, there is no better place for Mexican food than here. I have had better Mexican food in other parts of New York (Brooklyn and Queens) but the food here is excellent given the area. You won't find anything like it. If you like tacos or tortas come give this place a try, I'm sure you'll enjoy your meal! The staff is very friendly too. I always appreciate the tortilla chips. The prices are great too!
Four of came for dinner. I ordered 2 tacos. On shrimp one steak. The shrimp one was ok (small pieces of grilled shrimp) the steak one was not edible. All gristle and fat. We tried a Mexican beer El Sol. Really awful. A sweet beer ugh
**Ordered takeout during COVID pandemic
Food
*Chicken burrito - huge portion, good flavor (came with complimentary chips and sauces)
