Bar TESSA reviews
19Have been 3 times in the last month. Delicious food, great service, nice room, very clean, good sized portions. Blackened salmon is beyond delicious
This was my second time there and my second time seeing a critter. The first time there was a rat crawling near the wine bottles in the back. The second time a cockroach was crawling under my table. The cheesecake was awful and the broccoli rabe side was insanely spicy. I will not go back.
So many delicious dishes, nice cocktail menu, the Cacio e pepe pasta is out of this world!
Glad we tried this place for dinner tonight. Service was attentive and extremely fast! The food was delicious. My husband raved about the Cacio e pepe dish but everything was excellent. Will come back for sure
After visiting their sister restaurant Asset, I knew I wanted to come here for brunch. The brunch service was amazing. All the food was tasty, and our waiter was on point. I especially enjoyed the "create your own egg Benedict". I went with the lobster egg Benedict with truffle hollandaise. My date ordered the French toast. The lobster eggs Benedict was 10/10. However, the brioche french toast was a bit too moist. Although the flavor profile was good, the consistency was mushy. I'd say Sarabeth's has the better french toast, but Tessa has a better house made chicken sausage.
Cute and trendy but still cozy. Good variety of wines by the glass. The snap pea salad is tangy with a hint of sweetness on top of a light, creamy cheese that you hope will never end. Delicious. Shrimp scampi is yummy and satisfying. Good neighborhood spot.
The carbonara isn’t really what I would consider a carbonara; far too much butter and not enough egg left a buttery split emulsion on the plate. The tomato hollandaise on the Benedict was tasty and very interesting. The Bloody Mary pitcher actually seems like a decent value, but we weren’t able to finish it because of the absurd amount of horseradish in it - it didn’t taste much of anything besides horseradish. It also made for an unpleasant texture (imagine straining the pulp out of a glass of full pulp orange juice, and then adding that pulp into another glass of full pulp juice).
We had a wonderful brunch at Tessa. The food and service were wonderful. Would recommend without reservation.
This is my first negative restaurant review, so I’m not one of those kinds of people that take the time to write things unless I think it’s important. First, I must say that when calling the restaurant the hostess and the contact person was very friendly and helpful in making my reservation for a date. I was excited to check out the restaurant, Once we arrived we realized that it was very loud and very crowded, which makes sense at a busy good New York City restaurant. But after a long day, we needed something a bit more quiet without so many people, so I kindly said to the host that took us to our table. Thank you so much but we’re going to go to another place because it’s a bit loud and too crowded for us so sorry. Then the man who was seating us suddenly had a big attitude towards me, and seem to take it really personal that we were leaving he was very rude and gave me a lot of attitude. He basically said “oh you want to go somewhere else that’s fine with me and at that point, we started to walk out and I went up to the hostess stand to let them know. Thank you so much for making me a reservation. Sorry that it didn’t work out but we’re going to go somewhere a bit more quiet. Once we left. I look back inside the window and the man who had taken us to the table before was looking out, and I was looking back at at him. He came out of the restaurant like we were going to have a fight which is crazy because I’m normally a very peaceful person and I just let him know that he didn’t have to be so rude about it and condescending. He completely denied that he was rude in anyway, and did apologize, but continued to give me attitude and said that he does not want me to fight with his hostesses which is even more crazy since I was very kind and told them thank you so much but we’re gonna move on down the road It was like he took the whole thing so personal and I’ve been in New York for almost 30 years and I’ve never had that kind of experience with anybody at a restaurant. It was really uncomfortable to experience on a second date with the new guy. The place looked beautiful and the food smelled amazing. I would love to have tried it out one day. But because of the young man at the hostess stand, I am sure I will never return. I’m also sure that once he sees this, he will deny that he did anything wrong, and that he did not give me attitude, but I assure you from the bottom of my heart he’s one of the rudest people I’ve ever met at a restaurant, and that is the truth I hope he’s kinder in the future to people who feel that it’s a bit too loud and crowded for them and then he never treats customers this way again. I hope that management reads this. Thank you.
Some of the best french toast I've ever had - truffle fries were also out of this world!
My friends and family have loved this place for years and it didn't disappoint on 4/24.
However, one of my most favorite dishes- wild mushroom Castellon was missing from the menu altogether!
Dear chef, please bring it back! Our wonderful waitress, Madison, delt the same!
Amazing place with great food choices / the bar tenders where I choose to sit when I go there are the BEST and attentive to your every need / just go there and you’ll see for yourselves that I steered you right ️️️️️
Super quick service. Decadent, gorgeous French toast. Also try the eggs Benedict. Yummm
I wish they had a coffee menu with some innovative latte options.
Must go.
One of my absolute favorites on the UWS for happy hour, and meeting friends for drinks. Sometimes we just stop in for a nice evening glass of wine. They close at 11 and all-day Monday. Happy hour is Tuesday - Friday 11-6.
Tessa, owned by the same people that own Asset this location is on Amsterdam. Same cool vibe, same cool ambiance, and same great food and drinks.
Truffle fries are to die for. Bursting with Flavor and topped with fresh parmesan.
The octopus was fabulous, so moist and tender.
Green Mussels are cooked in a cilantro, tomato garlic, and white wine sauce with a touch of coconut milk.
I hear weekend brunch is very good too. Just a cool local place.
The Cacio E Pepe with Shrimp, Truffle fries and 2 Happy Hour cocktails: Yuzu Passionfruit Sidecar and Ginger Berry Margarita. Everything was phenomenal, including the amazing waitress that took care of us.
The lighting was such a vibe during the afternoon, relying on the sunlight shining through the windows onto the brick walls in the elevated part of the restaurant Will definitely be coming back!
Went there for a Saturday brunch with Friends.
Many little things happened which made me pick a three stars for this location.
Starting with the seating, it was little crowded, the tables could've been arranged differently. The chair where metal not quite comfortable for a long seating.
Service was on the slow side, claiming that they are busy with few parties happening (there was only one). One drink order took 30 minutes and it was wrong drink. They did cancel few drink items from the final bill as an apology which was appropriated.
The food quality was over all bland. My friends had eggs which came cold, my burger was ok, nothing special.
Staff and friendly, the place has exposed brick decor and cozy.
The vibe and drinks were great! The bar attendants were very attentive and friendly.
You should order the Lychee Martini!
Cocktails and food were absolutely delicious they have a really good happy hour where cocktails are half price and it’s an extensive menu of high quality drinks. We were also surprised by how good the food was and the portion sizes were great for small plates. Friendly staff, chic and buzzy vibe. Would definitely recommend!
We had a perfect lunch here. Waitstaff was excellent and the food was delicious. Excellent value for quality.
