The Armour-Stiner Octagon House (Private Residence & House Museum) reviews
18Had such a lovely tour yesterday! The grounds and home are immaculate and the staff was so kind! They have done such a wonderful job keeping the house beautiful and true to the history. I definitely recommend a visit during tour season, it is just stunning!
A seriously awesome experience! We did the classic tour and were not disappointed. We are hoping to go back and do one of the other tours offered. A must do if you are interested in historical homes.
The Armour-Stiner Octagon House is a jewel that offers important insight into the history of domestic architecture and design. The tours are informative and engaging. Each visit offers new insights into 19th century America. There are stairs, so those who need assistance be prepared.
This hidden gem should not be missed. A one-of-a-kind house that has been lovingly restored.
A buetiful Octagon House with its own greenhouse and.buetiful garden and trees. A very nice tour lady and lots of historical facts. I recommend a tour of the grounds and interior of this house.
The Armour-Stiner house is the physical definition of a "labor of love. " It is also a love letter to the past, not just for its architecture but also for the painstaking efforts the current family/owners have taken in preserving the spirit, lifestyle and careers of the original owners, first Armour and then Steiner, while also adding a small imprint of themselves in the mix. From the gorgeous furnishings to the quirky ephemera relating to professions and interests of all owners, no detail has been overlooked, including the house's historic relationship to the state of New York itself. The landscape and gardens are gorgeous as well. The tour was wonderful, and the guide was extremely informative.
As someone who loves Victorian architecture, this tour was AMAZING! Our tour guide Lyla was very knowledgeable and shared so much interesting history about the property, owners, restoration process, etc. I loved this tour and would highly recommend it! The home and property are STUNNING!
We went on the Victorian Springtime tour, which begins in the charming greenhouse. The house is beautiful and the restoration has been meticulous. Our tour guide, whose name unfortunately has escaped me, was very knowledgeable. The house is privately owned, so every third word of the tour is the owner's name, but I can't argue that he's done an incredible job with the place.
The house is an extraordinary labor of love and not to be missed. The attention to detail, the lushness of the furnishings all carefully explained to us by our excellent bguide Lelly.
Very fun place. The building was beautiful and in good condition. The guides were awesome. Buy tickets in advance and for nice days. Prepare to be amazed by the history of this place!
I had a great time at the Armour-Stiner House. Our tour guide was so wonderful and took her time to answer all of our questions. The home itself is stunning and I could have stayed the entire day. I especially love that you can find pieces of each family that lived in the home. Thank you to the Lombardi family for opening your home to us. It’s truly such a special place!
It’s a beautiful house with exquisite details. Not to be missed for anyone that loves art, architecture or history. We went in early April, can’t wait to see the garden in bloom.
Our guide was very knowledgeable and personable. I would definitely recommend this tour and quite possibly do it again! The house is gorgeous and although it was pouring rain, it did not stop us from exploring a bit
Great place to spend a day. Really beautiful and nicely restored Victorian house and gardens. There are few nice restaurants not far as well.
Got the opportunity to visit this hidden gem this weekend. We were looking for something local and partially indoors due the the weather.
I’ve lived in Scarsdale for 10 years and never heard of this delightful home in Irvington. If you are a fan of historic homes, or restored homes, or just interesting homes definitely check it out.
Our guide Rick was entertaining and knowledgeable. This home reflects the passion of the owner in the time and effort put in to accurately restoring this home.
Definitely worth a tour you won’t regret it
Wow, what a surprise right in my backyard (not literally)! Took a staycation and this was one of the spots on my itinerary. Sara (sp) was a terrific, knowledgeable tour guide with a lovely flair. Rick also will entertain you. Don't miss #TheArmour-StinerOctagonHouse when in #Irvington, NY.
Such a special structure and well worth the tour cost to see the details up close! Tickets were easy to book online, and needed to park on the property. You could view the building from afar from the Aqueduct trail by foot. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable on the history of the home, architectural influence, and furniture choices. Loved the Victorian Christmas decor and will definitely return in the spring!
An architectural curiosity, the Armour-Stiner House would be worth visiting for people who interested in interior design, Hudson River Valley and New York state history and Victoriana. The expansive grounds and a wraparound porch in front of the Octagon House afford beautiful Hudson River views, from Irvington, New York.
