The Bad Wife reviews
15Really convenient and cute but they are price gouging a lot more lately and I only feel like it’s worth shopping for specific items here now. They have amazing Asian products and will gladly keep coming but check the prices. It might be 30% less just down the street at Union.
Ive been going to the bad wife since it was a single storefront called the green market (soooo happy for the owners that theyve been able to expand and grow as business has improved over the years). Its park slope prices so its not cheap of course but the range of stuff they have and all the beautiful and delicious novelty/unique products make shopping here have a dually practical and exciting experience. I love coming here always!
Great convenient shop with a good selection of Japanese ingredients. A much much better option then the 'grocery locomotive' one block away.
Go to neighborhood grocery store for a good variety of produce, Bread Alone breads, craft beer, wide selection of canned goods/jar, and beautiful healthy plants!
Love this little place. They have great quality produce and the people are really nice. The plants they sell are also very beautiful and of high quality! Highly recommend!
I don't know what I would do without this small but mighty store. It has all the staples I need so it's super convenient for me to run over if I've forgotten something (like an onion, lemon, parsley, etc.). The prices are very reasonable, and the quality of the produce is excellent. I once saw a staff member going through the boxes of cherry tomatoes to throw out the bad ones!
They also have a very nicely curated selection of Asian ingredients and specialty products that you might not find at a typical supermarket (Tiger Sugar boba popsicles, anyone?). It's family-run from what I can tell, so I have the impression that everything is hand-selected and "vetted" by the family that runs this place.
I've usually been able to find what I need, although the other day I had trouble finding dried anchovies for making dukbokki (Korean rice cakes), which surprised me because this place stocks frozen rice cakes. That said, the staff did their best to try to help me find what I needed, even going downstairs to ask the boss.
Besides groceries, I've also gotten planters and flowers here. And I never enter or leave without ogling the plants outside the shop.
Bad Wife is one of the places we will miss the most if we decide to leave Park Slope. They have most things that you typically need on a daily basis (including a great craft beer selection), and the produce is in great shape. They have many Asian selections, which really come in handy. Lastly, if you need plants and don't want to travel far, come here.
I am moving and I'm incredibly sad that I won't be able to shop here any more. I have never had anything but stellar experiences here, even all throughout the height of the pandemic. I usually go at least once a week. All staff is incredibly professional and friendly and the vibe is always nice. Great music selection as well.
One of longest operating fruit and vegetable shops in Park Slope, the owners Mr.and Mrs. Lee are wonderful people who know their customers well. The store is packed with all items you need and want, including the best fruits and vegetables in the city. This is the definition of local good.
Small but well stocked. High quality, fresh fruits and vegetables and an excellent selection of delicious junk food.
I've been going here for. 15 years now? Wow. In that time I've always found the shop to have everything I need from a neighborhood small grocer, including specialty items, and over the years they've added a few items like some meats, that mean it can serve many of my needs in between trips to a larger market. In particular, I appreciate the home-made kimchee and other items, and the thoughtfulness and kindness of the owners and staff who are great.
Love this place. They have all kinds of exotic foods that are tough to find other places, as well as good fruits and veggies, and lovely plants and flowers. Highly recommend.
My go to store in the neighborhood, a good mix of items and very nice people working there.
Lots of speciality groceries and health foods. Always fresh produce. Good selection of houseplants too.
The best endorsement I can give for The Bad Wife is that there's a grocery store on my block, but we choose to make the drive here.
I started coming to Bad Wife several months ago because it was on my way back from a place I worked out. At that time, I liked the store, but it never made my regular rotation (Whole Foods, Fresh Thyme, Trader Joe's). Once the pandemic hit, we started coming here mainly because my husband is picky about the quality of the meat he eats at home and they had good options for him. We keep coming back because we've found so many things to like about the place, especially how seriously they're taking worker and customer safety.
The bad Wife is small and there are a few areas where selection is lacking a bit, but overall we've been pleased by the quality of fresh produce, prepared foods, deli and meats. Even when restrictions are eased, I expect us to continue shopping here. I like supporting shopping small and supporting a local business.
