THE BARBER SOHO NEW YORK reviews
15This was my third visit and again exceptional service. The attention to detail is second to none. Love both Yoshi and Keita. Got a full head and face shave and also a trim to my Gotye. Every time I come to New York for business I book an appointment. They are so good at what they do, and do it all with exceptional service and precision.
My one star review has nothing to do with the quality of the service provided but for the poor management and dishonest behavior of the whole team. I walked in for a beard trim and from the first interaction i thought I had found the place to go every week or so for my beard trim. I placed my sunglasses which also are prescription on the counter in front of the chair i would be using for my beard trim. I was so satisfied with the result, went over and paid adding a generous tip for the barber, i walked out appreciating his work and letting him know we would be doing business soon and often. I went to doors down where I was parked and when I enter the car I realized I had forgotten my sunglasses. I went back five minutes after and the barber was not there anymore, nor my sunglasses. They made it so obvious that a team member took the sunglasses, that even though the barber was in a back room he couldn't come and face me.
My barbershop at 68 Thompson Street in SoHo, NYC means business. This is no ordinary establishment; It is an outstanding experience even before you enter the shop. Their window alone is proof that this Tokyo/New York based business has given it all they’ve got to set the ambiance and bring their Tokyo aesthetic and expertise to NYC residents.
From checking in at reception, to the escorting to your private room/booth for your haircut and other grooming needs is just exceptional. Haircuts and other services are outstanding here and even your head gets washed and your neck massaged without you having to leave your chair.
The barbers are meticulous and experienced at what they do and all come from Japan together with its overwhelming customs.
Most barbers wear 3 piece suits and ties here and are well groomed and know their scissors and skills like the palm of their hands. Amazing is my experience every single time.
After you pay and tip (as tips are customary/mandatory in NYC but considered rude in Japan) they open the door for you and your barber escorts you out to the street. It feels like a blissful ceremony every single time; One that you wish you can repeat every single day.
THE BARBER is a Top Shelf barbershop. The best way to describe them is relating the experience, quality and price to riding first class in an airplane. It's more like a spa treatment with authentic Japanese barbers who show nothing but respect. Their customer service is amazing! This is not the place to go to if you're looking for a $12 dollar hair cut. This an Elite Barbershop that gives high quality services. They are expensive, and the quality of their services match the price.
They cut off a lot of my hair. I told the hair stylist specifically what I wanted. I showed him a picture and told him I was growing out my hair so it could be almost shoulder length and therefore I just wanted to trim the ends so it would grow out faster. He nodded and said that he understood, and repeated to me "only the ends no dramatic change", keep it the same just shorten the ends so it grows faster. He cut off almost two or three inches of my hair. It took me 5 months to get my hair to the length it was and now I'm at square one again and hoping I can grow it out as fast as possible. He also cut off my hair while it was dry which Ive never have had done and he didn't wash it prior cutting. He also used thinning scissors which thinned out my already thin hair quite a lot, making my hair look way more flat, and he almost used a trimmer on my head which would've shorten my hair even more and was clearly not something I asked for, at that point I told him to not use the trimmers please. They were kind enough to give me a refund and were attentive with customer service which I appreciate. I feel like I would do 2 and a half stars because the place is quite beautiful an it seems like it should be very professional, but sadly my experience was not ideal at all.
Best barber shop in NYC. A bit pricey on a cut but the beard trim and massage are a wonderful treat.
Josh took care of me and I’ll 100% go back. Quick, and clean haircut with great service, very friendly and great prices. I don’t need anything but a good cut and conversation and josh nailed both.
Thank you to the barber who did a decent job of cutting my hair. Oh, you know what? I appreciate it greatly, because I looked stunning and decent. Good job! See you soon!
I’ve been coming here for close to a year now and love the results every single visit. I get my cuts with Yoshinari and have absolute trust to let him do what he thinks suits me best. 10/10
If not the best, certainly one of the best places in Manhattan for a haircut and beard work. Professional, efficient, very impressive work. Comfortable setting. Will continue to trust them
Extremely happy with my haircut. Amazing service and attention to deal. 10/10 will go back
This place is incredible. Never experienced anything like this before while visiting NY. Would highly recommend this place to anyone. Everything from the customer service to the highly skilled barbers.this place absolutely rocks
My brother and I walked in (no appointment) got seated immediately, enjoyed a nice hot towel shave and hair wash and styling. Five star shave 5 star service.
The skill of my hair dresser was really great! I am always looking for a professional person who knows Asian hair well. Now I’ve found it. The very clean and comfortable place made me want to stay longer.
I love this place! I found it walking around SoHo accidentally. I’ve been getting my hair cut here ever since. Very elegant and beautiful design. Comfortable chairs. The water comes to you instead of the other way around. You will have to just see for yourself on that one. Their attention to detail is unparalleled in NYC. It has a true Japanese feel. The highest level of respect for their customers and in their profession. I wish more places were like this. And yes.they do a great job on your hair!
