Very interesting "catacomb" tour which is mostly not in the mausoleum but rather in the courtyard & basilica itself. (Just to be clear the catacombs are mostly like a mausoleum with everything behind the walls.) So much interesting history about the Catholic church in the US, the history of the formerly enslaved man who donated most of the money to build it, Irish and Italians conflicts, and the surrounding history and geography of Manhattan. Totally recommended!

We took the Catacombs by Candlelight Tour. Billy was an excellent tour guide as he walked us through a very interesting cemetery giving us a brief history of some of the more stellar inhabitants.
The church is beautiful. It is one of the film sites of the Godfather movies. The catacombs themselves were underwhelming, but walking through them by candlelight was great fun

It's a beautiful old cathedral that's a must visit when you're in the area to take a break from all the nearby delicious food. I visited as part of a walking tour but you can definitely explore on your own.

A marvellous Basilica that dates from 1809. Modest externally with an immensely rich interior this a gem off the beaten track that is well worth paying a visit.

It's a beautiful and historic basilica in a fun part of the city. We just wandered by, stopped in and wound up spending quite a bit of time there. It's also a very spiritual space even if you're not of the Catholic faith.

#TommyNewYork tour is helping out raising money for the restoration of the church starting July 2017. The tour guide is knowledgeable of NYC history, and visitors get an inside look. Really enjoyed it.

I visited the Basilica as part of the Catacombs by Candlelight tour advertised on Airbnb. The outside may seem bland and uninspiring but it's beautiful inside, the architecture apparently a cast-iron replica of the more famous St Patrick's Cathedral which have stone works. There's a massive and old pipeorgan that's going to be refurbished, though it's pretty impressive in its current state.

It was an amazing experience attending Mass here at old St. Patrick ‘s Basilica. Just a few steps across where we’re staying.

Although the address is officially on Mulberry Street, the church entrance is on Mott Street. The door on Mulberry Street leads to the sacristy.

It's not as well-known as its counterpart on 5th Avenue but the cathedral is noteworthy on its own for being the seat of the archdiocese of New York in the 1800s and the first church in the US dedicated to the Irish saint. It's not remarkable on the outside but really beautiful inside.

The original St. Patrick's, before the construction of the Fifth Avenue St Pat's. You can take a tour of the catacombs and see the 2500 pipe organ up close.

Great worship and tons of history. Watch out for the little old Italian ladies, though - they're pretty tough!

This was the church my great grandmother worshipped in in the mid nineteenth century - surrounded by a huge protective wall. Then the haters were outside the wall. Unfortunately now they're well secure inside the walls.

Love the design and even though it isn't quite as impressive as the gothic European churches and cathedrals, it certainly has charm!

Once I learned that the original Saint Patrick's Cathedral was still open, I wanted to visit. Unfortunately my schedule and their visiting hours never matched, until now. Glad I got a chance to visit. This classic old minor basilica was great to visit. I hope to get a chance to visit and take their tour, lots of history to see and understand. It's also in a part of town that's fun to visit and explore.
