The Buffalo History Museum reviews
11Great Museum! There’s a bit of outdated information in the Native exhibit, but other than that, we absolutely LOVED our visit!
Thisuseum is highly underrated. It is a hidden gem that you need to visit. The building is from the Pan American Expo 1901. It has a beautiful view on the back side and many visit during the cherry blossoms season. Inside the exhibitions are changed regularly so it is not a museum where you can say been there done that.
I urge you to take the Pan American Expo walking tour. It was a wealth of information given by Melissa Brown, the museum director. Thank you for a wonderful tour and a great museum.

Walk from the Japanese Gardens to the Rose Gardens by crossing over the pedestrian bridge. There's a great restaurant on the lake across from the Rose Garden. The Japanese Garden is behind the Buffalo History Museum. The Art museum is right across the street from the Rose Garden. Great place to spend an afternoon.
Lovely experience at the Buffalo History Museum around noon. There was maybe one other small group of visitors, so it felt like I had the museum to myself.
The museum is donate what you can. $10 is recommended, so I contributed that at the entry.
You'll see interesting blueprints for the construction of fancy buildings, portraits and keepsakes of important Buffalonians.
My favorite installations had to be the room full of portraits of Black Buffalonians and the Indigenous exhibit.
Entering the mini-longhouse was an experience I won't soon forget as well as seeing the painstakingly intricate diorama of an indigenous square as imagined prior to European involvement.
Honorable mentions include the raised wooden platform where you could see an antique trundle bed, dining room, forge, two looms (!) etc.
Another honorable mention was the inclusion of a black trans female Buffalonian who did drag, which felt especially nice as I had visited shortly before pride month.
How can I forget the futuristic VR experience where you can see yourself try on different historic outfits?
Unexpected delight, and wonderful innovation to bring history museums into contact with technology of the 21st century.
I'd definitely return to give these lovely exhibits more attention again.
If you love Buffalo, you'll find a lot of fascinating information here. And in the spring, the cherry blossoms in the Japanese garden are beautiful.
Even if you don't like museums you should visit just because of the beautiful building with amazing architecture and history. The exhibitions inside are informative, interesting and some even fun. They also have a beautiful japannese garden in the back, so worth giving a walk.
No-frills, pay-what-you-like ($10 usd recommended) museum with a beautiful back garden/park. Can come and leave in about an hour.
Very nice museum. Especially enjoyed the rail history. There was a sports section, as expected for Buffalo.
Will after being a while in Buffalo NY i didn’t know that we have such an interesting place like this
Beautiful museum, a bit small considering all of the history it holds. Has a nice section dedicated to Buffalo sports, which opens up its appeal to more people than a typical history museum would. Worth looking into the programs they have to offer. The building itself is beautiful and it sits right by a bike path, near Delaware park.
It was mind boggling considering the time frame they have covered with all the displays and information.
