If I were to ever move to New York City this pub would definitely be my local. A very authentic British pub, complete with an old style ‘snug’ bar. The landlord (Scott) keeps an excellent pint of Fullers London Pride, which is served in an old school British ‘pint mug’ with dimples and handle. The food was delicious as well, I had the steak and ale pie with ‘proper chips’ and a side of curry sauce. I loved the Churchill wartime ‘speeches’ playing on a continuous loop in the Gents (LOL). I’ve already planned my next visit the day after Thanksgiving to watch the England v USA World Cup game, it should be a great day out.
This place was recommended on. Facebook group ExPats I belong to. We stopped in while visiting our son in New York recently. It was a swelteringly hot day and we’d been on the boat to Liberty Island. Hungry, thirsty and overheated, this pub hit the spot perfectly. It was cool and just a little dark inside with the feel of an old pub back home. We were immediately seen to with ice water and a few pints. They had a good assortment of British beer on tap, as well as imports in cans and bottles. Once cooled off, we ordered fish and chips, salad, and a steak and Guinness pot pie -all excellent. There were many typically British staples to choose from on the extensive menu. Give it go. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. We will definitely be back.
Excellent pub with British food and soccer matches on the tv. The English beers on draft are a huge bonus!
Churchill will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart. The first bar that I’ve been going to since I moved to NYC 7 years ago. The ambiance of this place is special, not too crowded bar, nice selection of food, and lots of cocktail selections. The staff is friendly and attentive.
Terrible service, took forever to get someone’s attention, place is a mess, dirty af with dirty dishes piled up at the front door.disgusting.
If you’re looking for a quality English pub this is it! The fish and chips are perfect and the ambience is just right. Highly recommend the sticky pudd.
Place was pretty empty, but had a warm/welcoming atmosphere, good food and drink, and wasn't terribly priced. If I come back to NYC I'll be returning.
The atmosphere is unmatched. A cold beer in my hand, some football on the telly and food in front of me there's nothing better. The server bartender could have been far more attentive otherwise it would be five stars. There's weren't many people demanding things so he could have done better. Other than that I highly recommend.
After 7pm we got a different waitress who was horribly rude to us. She looked miserable working there and when she brought the check she took away my friend's unfinished drink. When he told her about it she started arguing with us saying it was already empty and came back with an empty glass to prove her point. She did bring a replacement but without a word of an apology or even a smile.
Was there for dinner yesterday. Social distancing not observed. Was seated 1 foot from another group. Complained to server who reported this to management. As we left the said they were sorry for that condition. Hopefullly I won’t be “sorry”. The medium rare cheeseburger was well done and dry. Coffe was tepid. Not a place for me to ever visit again. RVC doesn’t lack for good places.
Nice place but dining inside, it's too dark to see ur food! They place me in d mid-corner across d bar, too dark with only a candle in a cup lit as light, nothing support d light on d table but other's table light that I have to open my phone to cut my steak and pick my food.
But my steak taste good!
Beer price: a little higher than other bar.
This bar is not for minority, 'though they employ one. Just an observation.
Bloody expensive, Youngs Double Chocolate x 3 UK price, draught ales, minimum x 2 UK prices. UK beer is highest taxed (including Duty) in
Europe, excluding Scandinavian countries, and is imported tax free, excluding US taxes. Consequently, prices are astronomically high.
A great after work spot - and one we trekked back to during the pandemic, even without an office, just because we missed it and it felt like home.
Good beer selection, excited for it to be like the old days soon.
Service was great drinks were great but the deserts take the price. The IIWW propaganda in the bathroom was weird lmaoooo
Oh and the wing sauce was delicious!
I have lived in NYC over 2 years and only just discovered this place! I wish I did sooner.
If you want an amazing, cozy pub with British home comforts this should be your go to!
Right from entering the place, it is very COVID safe. Taking temperatures, contact tracing, spaced out tables, masks, sanitizer.
The dark haired young girl serving us sorry I forgot her name, she was lovely. So friendly, accommodating, welcoming.
Decor is so lovely and christmassy, and music is great.
We had 2 extra guests and no problem!
The bathrooms are so cool, they play Winston Churchill speeches.
Now onto the best part. Drinks choices are great! I got Strongbow cider and blackcurrant, prosecco and a jagerbomb - delicious and standard NYC prices.
But my gosh the food, WOW.
We started with scotch eggs and they were so tasty, the best scotch eggs we ever had. So fresh, hot and flavorsome.
I then had fish and chips with mushy peas and beans. Wow, best fish and chips I've had in NYC! The chips don't taste like chip shop chips but they were lovely nonetheless. The fish was great and batter very nice!
The beans were Heinz beans too, yum!
Others in my party got burgers, beef and Guinness pot pie and curried chips - all were delicious. Oh and dessert - sticky toffee pudding with ice cream was lovely.
The only improvements I could give:
- Less salt on the nacho chips that come with the spinach and artichoke dip.
- Less cheese on the stilton burger as it's strong cheese.
- Pastry of the pie could have been better, flakier etc.
BUT these are minor points and I am only giving this feedback because I will be coming here all the time:)! I give this place 5 stars and I cannot wait to come back here to try the whole menu, and the Sunday roast:)
