The Corporation of Yaddo reviews
11Beautiful grounds, fascinating history. Definitely download the self-guided walking tour from the website!
What used to be something meant to be enjoyed by the public has turned into a place that continuously shuts you out. The hours are slashed, tours are not offered and there is little to no communication as to why. Way to thank the public that has supported and admired the gardens for so many years.
The gardens we saw, were beautiful. The "your guide" was knowledgeable, but tried too hard to be funny, and just came off as annoying instead. We went for an event labeled as"Haunted Yaddo Gardens" tour, and there really wasn't anything very "haunted" or "spooky" about it. IMO, just a way to try to drum up money, during the Halloween season, since it was a $10 admission fee. Then, after mentioning a few benefactors, and how a few people had left the Corporation money and houses in their wills, she wasn't hesitant to tell everyone that donations were always greatly appreciated, as the tour was ending. Also, the coordination of the parking situation, was VERY poorly handled. I might go for a tour of the gardens during the Summer, because they ARE beautiful, but that is about the only draw that I can see.
Yaddo is a must on your visit to Saratoga Springs, NY. Peaceful, beautiful and historical are 3 words I would use to describe this property.
Such a beautiful, serene place to visit. I love the history of this property, and I love that this space is available to visit (for free!) where you can relax and enjoy the gardens. If you want a guided garden tour, it's $10 per person and the proceeds goes directly back to the org maintaining the gardens, which are comprised of volunteers. The tour guide is very knowledgeable about Yaddo and the property's rich history and loves answering questions Some tips: bring your preferred bug repellant if visiting in the summer, don't wear sandals () since there are no paved paths. The only thing that I hope can be improved in the future is handicap access. Wheelchairs or motorized carts would have a difficult time here.
We have been here before and the grounds are nice. Today we got there after closing. We parked outside and ate our sandwiches. A man came up to us and said he could arrest us before we could get the words out that it was unclear as to where the boundary was out to the road. He was beside himself where a few kind words would have been enough. I know many estates take in visitors for a donation to cover taxes to keep their home. Moral of the story - kindness goes a long way.
Gardens open promptly at 11 and there’s a small parking area to access them. The rose garden is lovely with fountains, and when I was there the fountains and pools at the rock garden were empty. Still a lovely little stop- only took about 20 minutes to see the whole thing.
Recently held our small wedding at Yaddo Gardens. While the space is absolutely lovely and a true gem, please beware! We visited the gardens several times leading up to our event and noticed the second set of gates were consistently closed. We reached out to our contact one week before our event, to confirm the gates would be open and whether there was a day of emergency contact. She ensured us the gates would be open and there was no day of emergency contact. Sure enough we get there and the gates are closed. My poor father and fiancée who were there early to set up chairs were frantically dialing every extension attempting to get through to someone. They finally got through to kitchen staff and an artist who happened to know where the gate keys were stored was able to open the gate. Absolutely unacceptable! The public needs to know this, as Yaddo relies on donations and a stunning backdrop, but their coordination and customer service for events clearly needs more attention.
Such a beautiful place to visit, especially in June when the roses are in full bloom.please tell me you are open this year post COVID.
The website for Yaddo gardens indicates it is open on their website! However I just took a very long ride there to experience the gardens and it is not open! The website should be updated so that others don't make the trip for nothing as I did!
