The Drama Book Shop reviews
18 Great book store! It is an absolute must if you are a book lover, a writer, or if you are into art, movies and theatre.
I loved all the decor, very creative!
️ Present you vaccine card to enter!
The souvenirs are really nice
️ There’s a coffee shop inside. Did not try it.
Nice selection of (musical) theatre related material. Some light reading, some more for study. Relaxing spot amidst the hustle and bustle of mid town. Could possibly be even better only by adding second hand sheet music.
If you need anything THEATER, (including costumes, scripts, etc) biographies, this is the place to be!
Beautiful bookstore to visit, to stay, to write, to find inspiration or guidance for actors and play writers!
Really cool place. It Its an interesting place. Not a regular bookstore, but a store dedicated only to dramatic works.
Lovely bookstore, however if you’ve never been here before or aren’t familiar with their policies, they don’t except returns and this isn’t posted in an obvious place. When I went to return a book they told me that I couldn’t and said that this information is stated on the receipt, which isn’t really helpful because you’ve already made the purchase. I think that posting this in an obvious place can help increase transparency and brand trust. I received a passive aggressive comment after getting clarity on this but that’s not indicative of the overall bookstore.
Beautifully renovated. If I could stay hours I would. Even a coffee bar. My students also loved the shop. Thanks for saving this icon!
Wonderful selection of plays to peruse. I enjoyed the additional sections that were acting/performing related. I wish they had more in the way of sheet music especially things that were currently playing (No Music Man or Company for example)
Come for the hope of seeing Lin-Manuel Miranda or a signing by an author- leave with a pile of books that you know won't stay on your to-be- read pile for long!
Cozy little place, perfect for escaping the hustle of life. Grab a coffee and peruse the many titles at your leisure.
Super friendly staff and security, too!
Great bookstore with astonishing stock. The staff however is exceptionally unhelpful and rude. On Saturday April 23rd shortly after they opened I stood at the information booth with a stack of books needing help finding a particular local playwright’s work while three staff members stood around and continued to chit chat. I tried again to locate the book on My own since the staff was too busy doing nothing but still couldn’t find it so reluctantly I went back to the information counter. AGAIN they stood around and continued talking after seeing me. A little girl even walked ip to the counter while I stood there and they immediately assisted her. I finally asked if anybody was available to help and a guy came to assist. When I asked about finding the local playwright’s work, he then became animated and seemed to care. I hope they give the author better service when he comes in to shop. If it wasn’t for their amazing book selection and that I particularly wanted a copy of Matthew McLachlan’s play I would’ve walked out. Terrible and useless staff.
A real treat to experience. Everything you can imagine including plays, novels, fiction and non-fiction books on Actors, Writers (play and screen), Production, Producers, Historical, How-to's for Theatre and the Screen. Beautifully designed space, very welcoming, areas to sit and read, Framed Posters, etc.
LOVED IT! Got a thespian book lover in your life? Take them to The Drama Book Store! Be careful though, they probably won't leave till closing. Being a writer myself I stopped at the second bookshelf, the writing section, and was engulfed for at least 40 min. Found the perfect gifts for my best friends, and an extra something for myself. If they hadn't been closing, an hour and a half after I walked in, I'm not entirely sure how long I would have spent there. If you get the chance, or need a good cup of coffee stop by. You won't be disappointed!
It is a very unique bookstore dedicated to all things theater. Even how the store is decorated is dramatic.
It was a great location, though could have a wider range of theatre books. All books are based on plays/theatre.
This place is great, except it's become less fun since the post covid, woke movement.
It used to have a real sense of humor mixed with the actors need to find a monologue tension.now it's got a coffee bar with pastry, a smaller film dept, more places to read but you have to wear a mask and all the bathrooms are all gender bathrooms.
I miss the old location and the one before that.
The best bookstore for theatre and film lovers. More plays, screenplays, teleplays, and industry journals than I've ever seen collected in a single store.
It's a beautiful, cozy place, perfect to escape from Times Square's noise. They have a well curated selection of books that will leave no theatre and musical fan dissatisfied.
As a German student with a small buget, who has to carefully consider wether or not to buy a book, this place is the best! I spend hours after school, sitting around and reading books and no one is mad at me for not buying them. The staff is very friendly and the place feels super confortable. If you don't buy a book and only come to read, I suggest buying a coffee or some food in there to support this lovely bookstore in some way.
