The Duplex reviews
18My friend and i went to use the bathroom and the worker accused us of being in the bathroom at the same time.didn’t apologize for that and was pretty rude about it.
Duplex can be a great spot on some nights, but it entirely depends on who's working and who's playing piano.
Two friends of mine were groped here by a staff near the restroom. The management did not do much to look into it and did not take any action. Do not recommend this place.
Initially, this bar appeared promising for a night out, but my recent experience has drastically altered my opinion. During our last visit, a member of their staff harassed my friend. This unacceptable behavior raises serious concerns about the establishment’s standards and customer safety. The management’s failure to address such incidents undermines the credibility of this place. Until they prioritize a safe environment for their patrons and take decisive action, I cannot endorse or recommend this bar anymore.
Had an amazing time as always. Always a riot to go see live piano performances and the best crowds in manhattan. Leave your inhibitions and go to have a great time without any regrets!
I came around 7pm on Thursday a few weeks ago with some friends so we could chat. Upstairs was pretty chill and empty except for a bachelorette party, that ended around 8pm. A drag performer came on at 10pm and, although she was fabulous, it was just too loud for us to talk and we decided to call it a night. I've been coming to Duplex for well over a decade so I knew what to expect. I do like that they have non-alcoholic "liquors" available and was served some tasty N/A cocktails, at very reasonable prices. It wasnt as busy as I remember it being in pre-covid days, which kinda threw me for a loop, but hey, now that I'm older I appreciate having some breathing room:)
It doesn't feel upscale, but it feels like a famous local piano bar. But the servers are really friendly and even the pink-haired girl who makes drinks while singing is really cool hahaha.
Very expensive! The cocktail was small and not particularly good for how much it cost, the fact of having music is not repaid with the cost, however additional 20% for each order. Not to be recommended
I've visited this bar several times on trips to NY and had a great time each time. This time however the guy signing seemed high as a kite and the bar staff were just downriver rude and arrogant. One guy just seemed to be aggressive from the get go and looking for an excuse to snap. He clearly was having a really bad day or hates his job as a server. Hopefully next time we visit if we do they have some of the great entertainers and bar staff we'd experienced multiple times before
Lucas upstairs was so amazing and sweet! They made my partner’s birthday a night to remember! -Theo and Callum
I've previously enjoyed my time at this bar, but my recent visit was marred by a distressing incident. Unfortunately, two friends of mine was groped by an individual near the restroom. The overall experience was disappointing, and the staff's response fell extremely short.
The situation wasn't resolved and our entire party just left disappointed.
This is simply not okay.
At first glance, this bar seemed like a decent spot for a night out. However, my recent visit shattered any positive perception I once had. The staff's lack of professionalism is utterly appalling. My friend was subjected to harassment by one of their employees. It's disheartening to see a place that claims to offer a good time tolerating such despicable behavior. The management's failure to ensure a safe environment reflects their negligence and disregard for customer well-being. Until they take serious action to address these issues and prioritize patron safety, I cannot in good conscience recommend this establishment to anyone.

She’s been around this place forever
Best bartender in the city
Been going to the Duplex since the 90’s and always a great time
Places like this have come and gone
Let’s hope this is around for a long time to come
Worst bartender experience ever. The bar was not even packed Sunday night for pride and I waited over 15 minutes for a frumpy looking white girl to serve me who didn’t even serve my drink at all. Stop inviting people behind the bar and pay attention to your customers. Do your job!
(Worry about your employees and tell them to do their job rather than responding to my legitimate criticism.)
Is the frumpy looking white girl still working there?
They charge 20% gratuity default, which is fine. But when closing bill, they directly went to tip screen instead of showing the receipt. I ended up double tipping and realized only later.
Great music, loved PaddyOnThePiano!
Cute bar but definitely overpriced. The cucumber martini that I got was $17 and it was served in a party cup. Also it wasn't busy yet it was hard to get our check from the server.
"Will do any thing for money" is there motto for get about the customer. Danny k Bernstein the piano player and the waitress rex. Said none was sing so we, my friends and me put in songs to sing for little money. Then I guess other people put in other songs for more money Danny, Rex and one other person went up 3 times in a row one after the other. We waited an hour for one of us to sing next and left. Guess this bar is not for average people.
Fantastic piano bar down stairs and brilliant bar upstairs with regular entertainment including drag Queens and karaoke.
