The Fantastic World of the Portuguese Sardine reviews
13The vibe in here is truly fantastic. Don’t let this place fool you however, they have literally all same fish cans but in different packaging. Clever. Tried octopus and was pretty good. Does it justify the price? Nope!
Seafood is an essential part of Portuguese culture and The Fantastic World of the Portuguese Sardines truly shows the love and connection the Portuguese have with the sea. The Fantastic World of the Portuguese Sardines is not just a testament to a national culinary staple; it's a celebration of a deep-rooted maritime heritage that has long defined Portugal's identity. Sardines, the silvery fish that populate the Atlantic waters off the Iberian coast, are more than just seafood in Portugal; they are a symbol of a way of life that intertwines tradition, community, and sustainability. This world is an immersive experience, capturing the sensory richness of the sea and showcasing the integral role that sardines play in the cultural and economic tapestry of Portugal. Through this celebration, the reverence for the sea's bounty and the recognition of the need to protect and cherish ocean resources for future generations is also foregrounded, emphasizing the sustainability of this beloved industry.
MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE STORE! ANYONE WHO KNOWS THE HISTORY OF HOW THEY CAME ABOUT, WILL UNDERSTAND THE PRODUCT AND THE COMPANY AND LOVE IT! DO YOUR HOMEWORK, AMERICA BECAUSE IT'S NOT ABOUT THE COST BUT ALL OF THE HARD WORK AND DEDICATION THAT GOES BEHIND WHAT THEY ARE SELLING.
Highway robbery. There is absolutely nothing special about the products being sold asides from the color of the printed cover and the ridiculous price. I advise all tourists/potential customers to avoid this scam. The products can be found at much cheaper prices at any supermarket. Cans should not be above $7 max, they’re being sold for 3x the amount at this location.
Store is whimsical. Not gonna pay though $15-$19 for a can of sardines. In the Philippines sardines in can is just a poor man’s food and something you eat on emergency when there is typhoon, flood.
If you’re looking for premium canned sardines this is the place. Expect to pay $18 per can. Each of the cans with different years on them are the exact same. I bought a couple Tins to try and see what all the hype was about. It’s a high quality sardine. That’s it!
The sardines and tinned seafood are very good. The store design is outstanding.
Unfortunately, the prices for the tinned seafood are all much too high. Anyone who shops for gourmet or imported ingredients in New York City can easily find better prices for many of the same products.
The most unique feature of the tinned canned is the exterior tin printing. In my opinion, it's a gimmick for tourists.
I love tinned seafood and yes, they made delicious ones but this shop is so pretentious and think tourists are willing to pay $30+ for tinned sardines?
They should had open in a more local demographic neighborhood and curated to locals then this high rent/ super touristy location and try to relay on Americans tourist to buy their overpriced tins.
What a cute amusing store dedicated to a delicious Portuguese tradition! I, for one, love sardines, and thought the prices were rather reasonable given how expensive GOOD QUALITY tinned fish can be!
Ridiculous prices, beautiful cans, but please. They came to America thinking that Americans are stupid, it even makes you want to laugh when you see the values. I visited 4 times and didn't see a customer buy, why is that? I think it's great but it won't be better than the ones I buy for 3 dollars and the can is for the trash. And tourists, who will buy it!?
LOVE this place. How they make money I have no idea but it is beautiful. Staff is great and the sardines I bought ($19 a tin!), were sublime.
The best sardines in the world. This store is modelled just like the one in Lisbon, Portugal
